My Interests

Music:

Band Website: blackwater-music.com
Band Members: Talley Griffith - vocals; electric and acoustic guitars; bass guitars; drums; piano; organ; mandolin; dobro; other assorted percussion and noises.Rachel Blankenship - vocals; fiddle; guitars.Marcie Horne - vocals; guitars.Todd Davis - (live band) drums; various percussion.Tony C. Hall - (live band) bass guitar; backing vocals.Aynsley Dickenson - (live band) organ; piano; keyboards.Other artists (known and unknown; famous and infamous) often join me to collaborate, including my backing band "BLACKWATER" who are a great all around rock band. Blackwater has no permanent live line-up and is a lot like a Government Mule "jam band" collective of revolving players. Among those who have played with us in the past; have expressed an interest to gig with us; or whom we may kidnap and drag onstage include: Sean Yseult, Graham Nash, Scott Carneghi, John Carter Cash, Bucky Baxter, Mike Campbell, Carol Kaye, Benmont Tench, Johnny Grubb, John Popper, Tim Reynolds, Jillian Ann, Allen Mills, John David Souther, Emory Gordy Jr., Brady Blade, Cesar Rosas & David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, and many more.
Influences: Syd Barrett, JR Cash, ELVIS, Kris Kristofferson, D.J. Matthews, Meat Puppets, Emmylou Harris, Metallica, Allen Mills & The Lost & Found, Mike Campbell and Tom Petty, Blind Melon, Steely Dan, Railroad Earth, Pink Floyd, New Grass Revival, Steve Cropper, Phil Lesh, Doug Weeke, Sammy Shelor and The Lonesome River Band, The Allmans, Robert Johnson, Duran Duran, Donna The Buffalo, The Temptations, Janis Joplin, Pink Andersen, Doobie Brothers, Los Lobos, Primus, Steve Earle, Ray Charles, John Hiatt, Charles Mingus, Hank Williams Jr., Stevie Wonder, Son House, Georgia Satellites, Prince, Waylon Jennings, Eagles, J.D. Souther, Muddy Waters, Graham Nash, Alice In Chains, Tennessee Ernie Ford, Rob Zombie, Skynyrd, Uncle Tom Dowd, and my mentor and godfather, Ahmet Ertegun (the original "Soul Man"). That eclectic enough for 'ya?
Sounds Like: I do not fit neatly within genre-neatness and categorization. My style of music has been called everything...Rock; Rockabilly; Metal; Country Rock; Dance Rock; Folk; Jam Band; Southern Rock; California Rock; Hard Rock; Americana; Rock Blues; Bluegrass; Alternative Country...but we call it REAL MUSIC. The comparisons of the sound from the following groups represent the residue of collaborations, influences, and partnerships. No matter what you call it, it is what it is - REAL MUSIC: Johnny Cash, Steve Earle, Dave Matthews, Kris Kristofferson, Blues Traveler, Pink Floyd, Rob Zombie, Metallica, Eagles, Government Mule, Flying Burrito Brothers, Dave Grisman, CSNY, Black Label Society, CCR, Railroad Earth, Waylon Jennings, Hank Williams Sr., and Bocephus (to name but a few).
