I am a middle aged man (well depending on where you put that higher number) just trying to do the best he can to provide for his family, and be a guide for those who need direction.
If I had a motto or a epitag:
"A hundred years from now, it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... But the world may be diffrent because I was important in the life of a child".
I have been blessed with two wonderful children. I have not seen my children grow up looking thru a picture book, but for the most part have been there.. from scouting, girl scouts, cheerleading, soccer, and Band
I have been active somewhere it seems all my life working with youth. At one time I had even considered youth ministry with a local Lutheran church while I was the youth chair on the church board.
I have been a Cubmaster, helped with pop-warner cheerleading.
I am a mentor for Take stock in children and I help out some at the local High School band.
SCHS BAND RULES:
As I sit here and look back, I now believe I have been in high school longer than any student. I started with my son, I had the opportunity to have 1 year with both my children in the band togther, and now my daughter has finished.
I have had years of seniors the have passed through my thoughts as I watch them prepare for the rest of thier life. I have had the opportunity to interact with so many, wether it was a chat, a question, or a serious problem. I have recieved those midnight calls of panic, and have felt the pain.
. My life works around the band, and except for my health that keeps getting in the way, I do as much as possible with and for them.
I have seen girls and boys turn into young ladies and men, Freshman so insecure that if they wispeared into your ear you could not hear them, yet as seniors have a strong voice and determination for life.
I have seen students struggle with issues and peer pressure, problems at home, work and yes school.
I have been asked so many times, why do I do it. I first think of the question that this person is asking, and in my mind I can do nothing but think, why are you not? But, the real reason is that motto up above! -no hidden agendas-
OK... maybe there is one... THe overwhelming gradification that I possibliy made a diffrence even with a simple answer to a question, Oh... and nothing and I mean nothing pays back more than when a graduate (Alumni) happens to vist and walks up to me and gives me a hug! and tells me where there life is going, how things are with them. I realize I had very little to do with where this fantastic person has gotten them self, but I was at least honored to be there while they were finding the way!.
