n Irish Celtic Mythology, Morrigan was one of a group of Irish war Goddesses who can be thought of as a single Goddess or as a triple Goddess. The war -Goddesses didn't actually take part in battles but they were present in the field and used there powers to help one side or the other. Morrigan was also associated with sexuality and fertility, this last association making her a mother -Goddess. In addition she is said to have the powers of prophesy and the ability to cast spells. In her capacity of war-Goddess she helped the Tuatha De Danann at the battles of Magh Tuiredh, and her association with sexuality is demonstrated by the legend she stood astride the river Unius with one foot on each bank and had intercourse with the Dagda before the second battle. Her sexuality is also emphasized in the legend of how she made overtures to Cuchulainn but was rejected by him, thereby ensuring that she bore him a terrible grudge Morrigan is also known for her ability in shape-changing. She frequently took the shape of a crow or a raven.
