About Me
The Society for the Advancement of Science and Skepticism is a student organization at Montana State University which works to promote science, reason, skepticism, and rational inquiry.
We wish to increase the public's scientific literacy and awareness - as well as convey the joy of exploration and discovery which is the heart of science.
“All our science, measured against reality, is primitive and childlike-and yet, it is the most precious thing we have.â€
-Albert Einstein
We support free inquiry. There are no forbidden questions.
We support the investigation of purported paranormal or supernatural events.
We aim to protect the separation of church and state - which is guaranteed in the first amendment of the U.S. Constitution.
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." - U.S. Constitution, First Amendment
Excerpt from the Declaration in Defense of Science and Secularism:
We are deeply concerned about the ability of the United States to confront the many challenges it faces, both at home and abroad. Our concern has been compounded by the failure exhibited by far too many Americans, including influential decision-makers, to understand the nature of scientific inquiry and the integrity of empirical research. This disdain for science is aggravated by the excessive influence of religious doctrine on our public policies . . .
Science transcends borders and provides the most reliable basis for finding solutions to our problems. We maintain that secular, not religious, principles must govern our public policy. This is not an anti-religious viewpoint; it is a scientific viewpoint. To find common ground, we must reason together, and we can do so only if we are willing to put personal religious beliefs aside when we craft public policy.

First ever images of a living giant squid.
Discovery of Tiktaalik roseae - all fossils represent transitional species, however Tiktaalik stands beside Archaeopteryx and Ambulocetus as posterchildren for the fact of macroevolution.
Evidence for water flowing on the surface of Mars in the past seven years. Does this increase the possibility of there being life on Mars?
A view of Saturn eclipsing the sun - taken by the Cassini spacecraft. Look closely and you can see Earth cradled within Saturn's rings.
An analysis of organic molecules discovered within the femur (upper leg bone) of a Tyrannosaurus rex reveals an evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and modern birds. This soft tissue evidence has been added to the mountains of morphological evidence for such a relationship.
