She is originally from from North Carolina, where she was born in a small town outside of Wilmington called Acme Delco. She is the daughter of Olivia F. McGuire and the late Johnny Martin, former member of Mighty Clouds Of Joy. She attributes her start to her late uncle, Reverend Maceo Freeman. Her uncle noticed her talent at the age of 2 and recorded her singing, "Nobody knows the trouble I see."Venus is presently a member of World Overcomers Christian Church, under the leadership of Pastor Andy Thompson Jr., where she is a member of the Praise and Worship Team. Formely a member of Abundant Life Christian Center COGIC, she served as a faithful member of the Life Praise Team and the Angelic Voices, for about 12 years. She appeared on the first realease of The Angelic Voices, "He's Turning It Around." Venus displays a few acrobatics on this title song. She also displays her quartet style on " Just Like That." " We Give You Praise," wonderfully executes the worshipper in her. She also served as coordinator for the Priesthood Youth Choir.Venus was the 1994 and 1995 recipent of the North Carolina State University Ebony Harlem Excellence Best Vocalist Award. She had the opportunity of performing at the Apollo Theater in New York. One of her testimonies is "Since the Lord found her and endowed her with His anointing, she has not been the same." Her motto, "God be glorified and Satan be nullified. Her favorite scriptures are Isaiah 40:28-31 and Jeremiah 29:11.Venus has had the distinct honor and priviledge of singing with the following gospel greats; Kurt Carr, Twinkie Clark, Ivan Powell, Steve Lawrence, Karen Clark-Sheard, Kim Burrell, and Donald Lawrence.
