About Me

I was born on Fri, July 13th @ Baptist Memorial Hospitol in Little Rock, Arkansas. My older syblings had alot to do with my musical background. My older brother, Larry would pass me records & tapes from folks like Motley Crue, Kiss, W.A.S.P., Quiet Riot, AC/DC, Ratt, Cinderella, ect... & my older sister, Jaime would give me tapes like Too Short, N.W.A, L.L. Cool J, Public Enemy & 2 Live Crew which had alot to do with my love for the groove. My Dad, Larry McElroy Sr. taught me my first song when i was 11. He taught me a riff similar to Johnny B. Goode and thats about all i could play for six or seven years. When I was 18 my cousin, Mike Martin (one of the best) started teaching me songs from Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Molly Hatchet, The Marshall Tucker Band, The Allman Brothers & Thin Lizzy. His two boys Mikey & Brandon Martin also had alot to do with my early learnings. We got together with our other cousin Mark Nipps and called ourselves Southern Breeze II after Mike Sr's band from back in the day. I first got into The Blues when i saw the movie Crossroads. Ry Cooder did most of the slide guitar work & Sonny Terry played alot of the harmonica parts heard throughout the movie and right then and there, I knew what i wanted to do with my life. I remember the first time i realized what a guitar can actually do, I was listening to The Thrill Is Gone by B.B. King (one of my top five) and it was like he was singin when he played. I was hooked from then on out. Then i started getting into John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy (also in my top five), Muddy Waters and eventually took to Robert Johnson (all time favorite), Son House, Lightnin Hopkins, Big Bill Broonzy and Charlie Patton until eventually getting back into stuff like Albert King (also a member of Big Al's famous "Top Five list" lol), Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton. My cousin Mark, with whom I've been in a total of six bands including Southern Breeze, Gentry Road, Super Kock, The Jeff Alan band, Crete & The Hot Tamales, got me into listening to more Metal over the years. I can't get enough of "Power Groove" metal like Pantera, Slipknot, Lamb Of God, BTG, LB Face, Metallica and even a little "Fucking" Slayer from time to time, as long as the vocals aren't too theatrical. I like a more natural approach to the whole thing personally. I started writing about a year ago and I'm about ready to do my first album. It will reflect on everything musically and spiritually that i've been so lucky to learn from Gil Franklin (also in my top five). Also, I'd like to add... Thanks to everyone on the scene for showing me the ropes. All the NLR greats like Bobby Rice, Jim Harlow, Kieth Lewis, Dan Sokoloski, Exit Strategy (aka THT), Wayne Caldwell & Port Arthur, Kim Griffin & Cosmic Bisquit, Phil Link, Greg McGowen, Rachael McBride, Charlotte Taylor & Gypsy Rain, & alot of other very talented folks that i've had the honor of playing music with over the last two years.
