"LOUFEST" The term came form one of my managers back in 2000. He kept asking me if I was gonna go to Ozzfest and I always responded that I would only go if the lineup was worth seeing. As a joke, he responded by telling that I should throw "LOUFEST" instead and come up with a lineup that I liked. Thus "LOUFEST" was born.Every August I would take off on vacation or on a roadtrip with my best friends and we call it a LOUFEST. Basically we were all doing the same crap we were doing when were in our early teens up till the time we all got serious with life.(setteling down, getting married, getting real jobs...etc.) We started officially calling it LOUFEST in 2003. By 2004, I decided I wanted to do something different and actually try to do a real LOUFEST with music and so forth. The rest is history. The 1st official one was in 2005. It was basically an excuse to have a party. I decided to do it in August since my birthday falls on that month. It also helped that 2 of my close friends are only days apart from my birthday. Anyways I would invite my closes friends and co-workers for food and drinks and a little entertainment. At that time I was putting a band together and thought it would be fun to "headline" LOUFEST. Ofcourse we were the only band playing so we headlined either way. Things went great as new friends met old friends and so forth.2nd LOUFEST was held in 2006 in Porter Ranch. Bigger playing field meant bigger party! Same senario except this time 2 bands. My good friends Counterpush opened up the show and tore the place down. My band JOIRYDE headlined and played a 5 song set. At this point there were 6 members of the group consisting of 2 singers, bass, drums, and 2 guitar players. Again the party had a ton of food, a ton of drinks, and plenty of friends.3rd Loufest was held 8/18/07 and was again in Porter Ranch and was billed as the last due personal reasons. This was speacial to me for many reason. 1st, I wanted people to remember this since this is the last. 2nd, showcase my new "streamlined" band since I lost a couple members due to many reasons. Because of that, I managed to bring in a new drummer and bass player at the last moment. By far it is the best line-up Ive had in a very long time. 3rd, bring in as much talent that I can find to play. Unfortunantly, Counterpush was'nt able to play. Top Notch opened for us and was great. A future talent in the rap field. My band "Feedback"(new line up = new band name) headlined once again. We had some "Spinal Tap" moments but perservered. Best moment was too see one of my bestfriends who flew in from New York with his wife to celebrate with us. The party went on to the wee hours till the last drink...and the last guest was gone.True Definition of LOUFEST.
One of my idols is Sammy Hagar. He celebrates his birthday every 10/13. They way he does it is that he celebrates as if everyone is having a birthday all at once and that is how I see LOUFEST. I have a very bad memory and I always forget birthdays, anniverasrys, etc. So when I throw a LOUFEST, it's just my way of celebrating everyone's birthdays that I missed and everyone's birthday that I havent missed yet(but would most likely forget) To some people its just an excuse to party, to some it means a lot more.
