Shannon and Shauna are identical Carrier Dene First Nations twins of the Stellat’en First Nation reservation in northern British Columbia. They currently reside in Vancouver, British Columbia. As long as they could remember they were always performing, whether it was at three years of age at a wedding reception audience of three hundred people singing “I’m a little tea pot†while dancing to the ‘tea pot’ dance or at the age of sixteen competing in classical music competitions. The twins love for performing took on various forms while growing up. They engaged in gymnastics, jazz dance, school choirs, plays and the school band. Music has always played a part in their lives whether they were competing, creating or listening to it. They played various instruments such as the saxophone, flute, clarinet, piccolo and the guitar. In the tradition of the Carrier Dene people, the elders from Shannon and Shauna’s reservation put warm bee hive into the palms of their hands when they were babies so that they could have strong artistic abilities. Perhaps this is the reason that they are drawn to the arts. Throughout the years Shannon and Shauna have expressed themselves through various ways whether it was through writing, painting, poetry, fashion design, sketching, dancing and music. Shannon and Shauna’s interest in modeling originated from their attraction to fashion. As children they would make their own paper dolls and for hours would design several wardrobes for their newly crafted dolls. Like other little girls often did, they played dress up with their family’s old attire. As they grew into teenagers, dress up took on a different manner, as they wore these clothes to school by dressing up long forgotten scarves with bell bottom jeans from the seventies and vintage shirts. After learning how to sew they soon started to piece together their own clothes. They would do the same to newly bought clothes by wearing them in a way that suited their own unique style. Shannon and Shauna’s introduction to modeling occurred while they were shopping in the mall and were approached by a modeling scout. They pursued modeling after being approached by a few more agents on different occasions. Shannon and Shauna’s fascination in modeling was solidified after being approached by several modeling and talent scouts in attempts to get them to join their agency. While growing up, Shannon and Shauna were commonly referred to as “The Baker Twins†because many people could not tell them apart. This is how they got their nick name. Although they are twins and look similar they are very much their own person. Shannon finds time to continue her education and is well on her way towards a Bachelors Degree. Shauna has many hobbies including: roller blading, aerobics, shopping, jazz dance, playing the guitar, playing basketball, yoga, jogging, skiing, reading, going to the beach, camping and swimming. Shannon’s hobbies include: Rock climbing, playing the guitar, playing tennis, gardening, yoga, linguistics, jazz dance, tap dance, skiing, going to the gym, running, reading, writing, sketching, drawing, painting, cliff jumping, roller blading and hiking. Shannon and Shauna are very open-minded and down to earth. Although they live in the city they are very much in tune with their culture. Despite the physical distance, Shannon and Shauna are extremely close to their family and friends. Many people ask Shannon and Shauna advice on their pursuit towards their dreams. Shannon and Shauna believe that with hard work, sacrifice and determination anyone can attain their dreams!
