While the West Midlands has been on the musical map since the late ‘60s, having spawned such rock icons as SLADE, BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, NAPALM DEATH and, um, WOLFSBANE, the sprawling urban conurbation hasn’t faired too well in the punk rock stakes. That is, of course, until now…
Formed in Wolverhampton in 2005, female-fronted five piece SHOWDOWN CiTY draw inspiration from everyone from THE CLASH to BLINK 182 and ANTI-FLAG to NO DOUBT, mixing-up these old and new school punk rock elements to create an edgy yet melodic sound.
Since the release of their debut self-titled demo in August ‘05, SHOWDOWN CiTY have gigged constantly around their native West Midlands and have built up quite a reputation for themselves on the local music scene. And, through their My Space page, the band are slowly but surely building-up their national profile too.
But don’t just take our word for it…
After making the top five unsigned bands list in KERRANG! magazine’s annual Readers’ Poll in December 2005, SHOWDOWN CiTY were personally invited by AIDEN frontman wiL Francis to open for the Seattle-based goth punks on their 2006 UK tour. That year also saw SHOWDOWN CiTY opening for GOLDFINGER and MC LARS as well as picking up a rave review for their demo in BIG CHEESE magazine. 2007 saw SHOWDOWN CiTY opening for THE DAMNED, TRASHLIGHT VISION, THE GHOST OF A THOUSAND and [spunge]. Showdown City are now more excited than ever with writing new material for future release that are bound to impress.
