I stopped taking life seriously in the fall of 2000, when I sold everything I had in Washington DC and started sailing and traveling, and thinking of myself as a "gypsy". It's less ominous sounding than "drifter", don't you think?I enjoy my summers as the Tshirt Department Buyer for Wall Drug, a world famous tourist attraction in Western South Dakota. We are 10 miles from the entrance of the Badlands National Park, 70 from Mt. Rushmore National Memorial, and 88 miles from Sturgis, home of the Black Hills Motorcycle Rally.
It's a busy job and it keeps me fit.
Something that is very important to me is my participation in The Compact, a pledge I made a few months ago to not buy anything new (other than necessities like food, items for health, hygiene and safety). I have created a yahoo group (ABQCompact) for anyone that wants to communicate with me about this challenge. I'm thrifting, Freecycling, swapping/borrowing/bartering/buying off the grid on a daily basis. It's a great challenge and my creativity has never been more keen.
