About Me

This album is a departure for me. It has been four years since my last release. There has been so much to discover, learn and process about the completely different life I lead here in Eastbourne. Much time has been spent on DVD work, which I have enjoyed a lot. But music has always been at the core of my creative activity. Various ideas have been brewing for a while, and then Mahesh came and worked his magic with his amazingly inventive and self confident improvising, and brought much of the work to a conclusion I liked so much that it seemed only right to release it. It really does provide a superb example of what a glorious instrument the voice can be.

The album also enjoys creative input from my ongoing creative annual studio expedition with Arthur Hull. Also Simon Webster, who lives locally co-writes Track 3 with me, and plays darabuka. Simon is a great percussionist and loves playing live, but like me travels increasingly far to do so. Other guests include Tom Askaroff on guitar(yikes!) and Rod Pooley plays extra keyboards(holey moley!) The three of us play in a local funk band called Pebbledash - along with stunning bassist Matt Cooper(serious shizzle!), and also bubbly lyricist/vocalist Emma Louise Meeres. Emma brings in an excellent fun quality, which for musicians who can take themselves too seriously at times is a great antidote. Much has changed since my last album in the way music gets to the world, and it felt right to reactivate my Starfield label, through which this is released. On my website CD’s or MP3 downloads are available, and additionally the album is available on itunes for those so inclined. Bravado Masala

Influences: The cover artwork for this album has been expertly created by my longstanding friend Rory Baxter in Australia. It is intended to be a fun way to present the broadly diverse nature of the differing tracks in such a way that you have a clue as to the spirit in which it was made. It was his ingenious idea to come up with the concept of packaging what he saw as the veritable feast of aural goodness, and bottle it. Clearly there is some humour afoot here, but I find his crafting exquisite, and I really enjoy the nod towards 1950’ s popart. He’s also recently completed extensive study of 3D techniques, and here’s the fruit! You can check out more of his excellent work at:- www.toygun.com.au .Though he lives in Sydney, Australia, it presented no problem whatsoever in developing this project. I’m only sorry he lives so far away because he also plays brilliant didge and is a mean djembe player to boot! It’s his phenomenal didge playing in the title track of Feet in the Soil.
