I don't know... Who is interested with "about me" ? My bio ? Not so much to said. Or maybe too much. Me, I need to do photos, that's all... Make Trade Fair

La sagesse, Georges Marciano pour l'apero...
La lumièreHe was living in Los Angeles and I was about to leave for the Baie des Anges, in Nice, and he told me about light.
Just like him, all photographers first define their art as light capturing, don’t they ? Some of them push their art to the absurd limits of concept, but the lens still has to open and shut to play with the tiniest photon.
Among our peers, some are really good at that game for the delight of our pupils. Since I’m addressing professionals and keen amateurs I won’t make the exegesis of the game.
So, why nevertheless, write about Stéphane Tourné, a photographer come from nowhere and whose destination is everywhere? What new relations could he possibly establish with light whereas we have the feeling we have said it all and achieved it all in the fields of model photography and portrait at large ?
First of all-although he is not the one and only photographer to do so-he dares take black and white photographs and one likes his being faithful to one’s first love whose beautiful shades of grey make one quiver.
Black and white is so classy!
And what’s more, the old devil shoots Black people! Black people in black and white! An easy task? Ok then, you try and we discuss it. Black skin is beautiful, isn’t it ? Yet, to capture its grain, professional technique is needed, which is not given to just any photographer.
In addition, Stéphane Tourné adds plastic, cotton, rice, milk, teeth, nails, water, along with shades of grey and brown, a whole range of chiaroscuros.
Now you can go to the Célal Gallery, 45 rue Saint Honoré, Châtelet tube station on January 16th and reiterate your visit after the vernissage to have a closer look at the work of our virtuoso.
For all his skill, Stéphane Tourne needs a score, a support, a pretext to be able to take off. Shall we return to black skin? Or should we phrase it negritude, ‘black attitude’, black identity ? What about Afro-Americans? Does this former model, now on the other side of the looking glass like many others, only indulge in immortalising the apology of some ‘formal beauty’ whose existence we cannot deny but of which we would get tired if there was nothing more to it ?
What do these black epidermis transfigured by white-laceration scars try to tell us ? What about these beautiful tits hemmed with a milk-white cotton that we would like to be fair trade ? What about these famous gun-facing mouths descending from Ife’s masks ? What does this sumptuous dancer whose muscles are a vibrant homage to his mother’s womb say ?
That Africa is so beautiful, its peoples so splendid, its cultures so indefinitely complex and chiselled by times immemorial, that we cannot, along with Stephane, but bow before Africa in prayer, …. and it is in prayer that he ‘shoots’. Amin !France 3 report
