About Me

Plymouth based Electroacoustic composer Neil Rose teams up with indie record label Onec to bring about the apocalypse. Neil Rose most known for his Concrète works, studied at Middlesex University, a prolific composer who exhibited many works over the last six years since graduating: Sonic Arts Expo (07), Plymouth’s contemporary music festival and on London’s Resonance FM for example, and now works at Plymouth college of Art as a sonic arts lecturer. He works under various pseudonyms and as a member of performance group Elm-K, soon to be rescoring Murnau’s 1931 classic Tabu at Plymouth University’s Jill Craigie cinema on October the 8th. Neil Rose also plays a key role in developing sonic arts and its expression within Plymouth and the South West, a major player in Café Concrete: Plymouth’s premier experimental collective. Stepping out of his usual concrete mode of practice Neil Rose delivers a concept album that is absorbed and intertwined with the dark and twisted work of H.P. Lovecraft, producing a double A side album called Wilbour Whately (the “goat boy” who conjures the daemon that terrorises the local town in ‘The Dunwich Horror’) and Phychopomps (the beings that guide the spirits of the dead to judgement, a nod to Lovecraft’s only novel length work: “The Case of Charles Dexter Ward”). The album fully deploys Neil Rose’s considerable skill at effortlessly interweaving concrete sound sources, the spoken word and awkward polyrhythmic beat material. It is dark and brooding and frequently difficult listening, that at times yields results no recording should produce, and yet retains a danceable sensibility. Available now from the Onec online shop, and other independent retailers. ..
