Olivier Michils AKA Om / Om² Shanti / Shanti / Shanti VJ
Born in Brussels (Belgium) on 18 November 1969
At the age of 7 Shanti begin violin, but he hate Academy…
All Begin really in 87’ with the emergence of electronic music, new-beat, acid, house and the underground music movement…
He started Electronic Music on Computer as autodidact in the beginning of the 90’s with Atari computer, cubase software, and completed his first demo CD “Heteroklitos” with the OM project in 1996 (yes, I take the Time…). At this Time he uses for the first time a light synthesizer visual program called “Trip-a-Tron” from LamaSoft on Atari Computer.
Influenced by Tangerine Dream Ambient music, Klaus Schulze, Ashra Temple, Pink Floyd, Brian Eno, and many more...
He can’t dissociates music and graphic…
From 1997 to 2000, He attended a Computer Graphics course with a specialisation in web design. Further to this, he worked for various companies as finisher in pre-press, as web designer, and designer for the “Oniros Illusion Studio”, a company that specialises in both computer games and web design. Whilst working there, he discovered the Arkaos VJ program. He worked on that programme for an Event Made by Arkaos for Belgacom Inauguration Tower at Brussels (Belgium telephone provider). Then he continued a self-training on video programs for VJ’ing visuals creation.
In 2004 he’s being the official VJ of the “Usine a Son” & for “les Baroudeurs du ciel” (a musical Tale) and for party’s at the same place.
He became in 2005 the VJ for “Textures” (Ambient duo project). In 2006 support the audio live for Mister Island with screening project and prepare some projections with SynchDub, Electronic music artist.

Inspired by Electronic, Design, Music, TV, Web, Graphics Culture. His projections are based on different theme: natural life, universal, sciences, technology, computer, Games, eXtreme Sports and/or many other themes!
He makes his own visuals using cam, web cam, Flash.., but use also video capture on Internet, “Recycle” and use it like audio sampling, put effects, cut & mix…
Some of projections for party’s, are based on the “easy-viewing”, don’t try to understand something, it‘s pure subjectivity, and like perception, they are individual and have personal interpretations…
His VJ’ing can be defining by an addition, subtraction &/or multiplication of movies to have a “homogenise” results: sometimes minimalist results & sometimes overcharged all controlled by midi controller, composing by specific themes or not, by improvisation or well prepared, but always interacting with the music by audio/midi synchronisation and with or without the participating of the musicians or DJ…
Antagonist and heteroclite, he like to play with contradiction…
When abstract meets reality,
shadow meets light,
cartoon meets porn,
softness meets ruddiness,
beautiful meets ugly,
trippy meets reality…
