"Tiki" from Modular Forms, Music & Video Art by Wilson Fontaine
Sounds Like: e l i p t i c c u r v e
Garment Construction is 'site sensitive sound
re-construction' originally recorded at the J.Morgan Puett studio in NYC .
Fontaine's methodology has been to record random
interactions of noise within a specific location and to
reconstruct this audio evidence of human activity into
sound art. By composing the hum of sewing machines
and other garment making tools,( such as scissors, kick press,
dye mixing spoons, ect.), Fontaine focuses on the relationship
to these machines and tools as a way to reflect on the
importance of their use in our lives.

Modular Forms is the sister compilation to
'Garment Construction'. It represents Fontaine's more
personal translation of emotional relationships between
people and their environment. The Garment Construction
theme is replayed as an anchor to Modular Forms. Water
elements are recorded from garment washing and drying
noises and then are reshaped into the form of instruments
which creates rich texture in motion. The finale track
features the noises of metal clothing hangers scraping
and sliding along the metal display bars in a retail
setting, reflecting on the final phase of the collaborative
process in the garment making and selling experience .
These repetitious sounds represent to Fontaine life cycles
in constant motion of decay and rebirth, transformation
and reconstruction.
