PimpMyArea.com All of the vocals featured on the above songs are me multi-tracked. This is the type of singing that I really love to do most I guess. Over the last 20'ish years, I've pretty much sung in most styles (other than high, or even for that matter low?! opera), from Tv/Radio ads, bucket-loads of bv's, to solos on major Films and Documentaries. I studied at The Guildhall School of Music, back in the early 80's and went on to the Jazz/Rock course as a post-graduate. I guess I didn't really know what I wanted to achieve as a singer/musician back then, hence shuffling from year to year, course to course, it seemed pretty aimless at times looking back. However, over the years, since meeting and listening to many amazing singers, I feel there is surely nothing like getting out there and doing it on your own terms, in my opinion, this is definately the best grounding for those steep learning curves. Study yes, 12 hours a day if you have to, but 'performing' without college restraints is really important. There have been times when I wanted to try something new (lol), perhaps something steadier, but limited brain-matter has always kept me from giving up, or should I say re-training (not more college work Rob?), this is what I do somehow, still!! So, all those different genre experiences have led me over the last few years to combine my work as a session-singer with the expansion of my Vocal Agency Doublefvoices. http://www.doublefvoices.com. I supply vocalists of all genres for anything from Tv/Radio ads, Films and Live Gigs.Doublefvoices have supplied a choir for 3 major Films, Eragon, The Last Legion and The Nutcracker...(we love singing on Films!)I really enjoy every new avenue to do with this long career path and in particular love hearing new singers. Any advice for aspiring session-singers? Quality showreels are massively important. Long cv's with height/eye colour/hobbies/dob/provisional driving license/favourite colour etc etc...(I guess I get alot of those), not so.My view is that style and individuality are the main 2 ingredients to make an impact on 'fixers'. Steer clear of cover-versions on demos, unless they are radical of course. Try not to get 'pigeon-holed' early on if session-singing is for you and be as eclectic and open-minded as possible. There's so much amazing music out there, so if you've got a voice, grab some recording equipment/software, just 'crossover' and experiment, as you may not know where your next pay cheque is coming from, from time to time...it's a long-winding career path for many artists of course. One last point...in what has become an increasingly competitive field, General Musicianship skills, i.e. sight-reading, is something that so often singers give up on and from time to time this can obviously come in very handy, especially when the studio clock is ticking away, so just keep on trying! Enough preaching already, I hope you like the tracks...I'm still here and really enjoy MySpace!
