Versa Style is a dance ensemble that consists of young, committed and conscientious artists representing the beautiful complexity of Los Angeles. As 1st generation Latino, Philipino, and Middle Eastern community artists raised in the inner-city, we wish to reach out and give back to the communities in which we came from. Through our service to the community, Versa-Style, demonstrates the potential in youth to become successful artists. Versa-Style promotes complex, meaningful, and positive representations of our youth culture and art forms, while demonstrating to the audience self-worth, discipline, knowledge and a sense of unity.As a reaction to the widespread media misrepresentation of Hiphop , Versa-Style specifically aims to clearly define the roots, history, social and political issues surrounding the art of our generation. We create highly energetic work that fuses dances that are culturally significant to our community. As an ethnically diverse young cast, coming from the same communities in which we are performing for, the audience will identify themselves with the performers. By presenting ourselves as examples of successful artists, students, and college graduates we will inspire and be a reflection of the possibilities and potential of our audience.Hiphop breaks color lines by creating a forum where people come together for a common passion rather then grouping themselves by race or socio-economic backgrounds. Versa-Style demonstrates freedom of expression, freedom of individuality, hard work, self discipline and dedication to the form. By representing the effort that goes into becoming a successful artist that effort translates in all aspects of life, including academic proficiency, strong community leadership skills, and developing an open-minded respect for the world around you. We hope our passion and commitment transfers to our younger audiences.
