Colours Audio

About Me

The thing about INK and THE HORSEMEN is this: people automatically call their style “B-Boy”, which is indicative of one particular sound that they can flip. The reason Ink and his crew are so deadly is the fact that they can switch it on you really quick: you expect a rough and tumble night in the jungle, and you end up getting treated to some of the hardest Soul out there. You think it’s going to be a ’96 drumfunk workout, and all of the sudden the dreads and the dub riddims are coming to play. This multi-faceted nature has been the core of Ink’s production over the years, encompassing all of his influences: from house to Hip-Hop, reggae to funk. Nothing is untouchable, except the HORSEMEN…
Colours Audio is a proper extension of this. The initial 6 track EP showcased this: with tracks coming from Outlook, Mutt, Devize, Cru Memba and Ink himself, we were treated to the rough and the smooth, the hard and the soul. Truly every colour of the DnB rainbow got play. The second release featured Virginia, USA’s Perpetuum’s first solo 12”; Perpetuum is a producer who is under the radar, but is making so many moves that once the floodgates open, he will be charting the ship. Having only been featured on some nastier bits of DnB, “Urban Afterglow” and “Big Star” were surprisingly lush pieces of music, throwing jazz flourishes and a great ear for melody into a warm DnB bed. And then there was silence…
Until now. Already lined up is a release from Kjell, another Virginian who has been getting much props in his own right, as well as getting tunes signed to Santorin, Creative Source, Digital Blus and Trackdonalds. “Cloud 30” and “Never Been Crushed” have been getting burn from a number of DJs, and are a welcome addition to the growing catalogue of Colours Audio…
Also on the horizon is the forthcoming album from DJ Ink and Perpetuum entitled “Hard Soul”. “Hard Soul” is just that: deep music with an edge. The embodiment of a “beautiful struggle”. And it’s a sound that both Ink and Perpetuum are masters at. The details are still under wraps (for now), but expect a diverse range of sounds coming from this duo, from the dark to the light. Mass appeal and beats you can feel. Consider yourselves… warned!
