The Greaseland Recording Studio is located in San jose, California.
Greaseland is run by three musicians who also live in the house, Chris "Kid" Andersen, Bob Welsh and Hans Bosse.
Kid plays lead guitar for Charlie Musselwhite and has 3 solo records out, Bob Welsh plays lead guitar, piano and organ with Mark Hummel's Blues Survivors and has worked with every blues great under the sun just about. Hans Bosse is an accomplished drummer who works freelance and frequently performs with RJ Mischo and John Nemeth and many more.
The trio started up the recording studio in 2006 after they got a bunch of recording equipment for free from a friend who was a handyman for a radio station. His job was to throw out all the old analog junk no longer in use, but instead it came into tha hands of these three guys who made several great sounding recordings on the 8 track Otari tape machine and funky Ramsa board that was destined for the dump.
Newer equipment was eventually also purchased and today Greaseland is state of the art with Pro tools and everything. We got a nice assortment of great sounding mikes, preamps, a new Mackie board, and the house sonds damn good.
Cleverly utilizing their living space to work in, Chris' bedroom is also the control room, the laundry room a vocal booth, the (sourprisingly good sounding) living room drum/tracking room, and kitchens, bathrooms, closets and other bedrooms are used for iso booths and whatever need be.
Over the last years, many household blues names have recorded at Greaseland : Terry Hanck, Kim Wilson, Rick Estrin, Dennis Gruenling, RJ Mischo and Rusty Zinn.
