Wed 3rd: ENTROPY FUNK:
Funk/Soul/R&B Funky is about the injustices, the things that go wrong, the hungry kids going to school trying to learn. Funky is about what it takes to make people move - take it from the gospel, from the jazz. -- James Brown. The sexiest blend of old and new school funk happening in the south today, "Entropy distills the essence of funk into its own infectious brew". Based out of Atlanta, Entropy began as an instrumental trio in 1999, gaining steady recognition over the next two years for their high-energy performances. The addition of Rod Williams in '01 enhanced the dynamic and creative scope of the band, propelling them to new heights of soul, R&B, rap, and of course the super heavy funk. Later, the additions of Jailan Jagne and Hawk Harvey on alto and tenor saxes brought the budding sound into full bloom.Influenced by the traditions of James Brown, Parliament/Funkadelic, Prince, Eric B. & Ra Kim, and countless others, Entropy remains dedicated to bringing potent live performances and laying down slick, funky, sultry grooves in the studio. They have shared the stage and collaborated with a wide array of local, regional, and national talent, including Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Kofi Burbridge, Robert Walter's 20th Congress, Vinyl, Carlos Washington & Giant People, Sound Tribe Sector Nine, The Greyhounds, Big Fuzz, DJ le Spam & the Spam Allstars, Ulu, Yonrico Scott Band, Jeff Sipe, DJ ..5, Squat, and Genetic.Over the past few years Entropy's fanbase has been growing and growing. Touring extensively in the southeast in '02 and '03 the band built a formidable reputation in its existing markets of Atlanta, Athens, Augusta, and Savannah for "the blistering energy of the live show" and their true funk sound. In '04 and '05 they spread the funk to Tenessee, Alabama, Florida, the Carolinas, and New Orleans (Jazz Fest '04 and '05) to packed dance floors of party people shakin' it all night long. Crowd response was enthusiastic to say the least, the people seemed almost starved for the funk.Entropy took it upon themselves to satisfy the fans' appetites by playing over 250 shows in '04 and '05, building a strong following everywhere they went. This funk frenzy was in support of their debut studio album, LIVE+REBEL+FUNK+LOVE, released in September 2004. Entropy has been recognized as an emerging funk-force to be reckoned with, illustrated by the 2002 Flagpole Award for Best Soul/Funk Band (Athens, GA) and most recently in 2006 for Creative Loafing's "Best R&B/Soul/Funk Act-Reader's Pick" (Atlanta, GA) . Currently, the band is in the trenches spreading the funk and promoting their sophmore release, released February 2007. Look for a new album in 2009, plus tours into brand new areas of the country! www.myspace.com/entropyfunky $5

Rebirth is committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands while at the same time incorporating modern music into their show. Play Pause Stop, the latest disc by the Benevento/Russo Duo, is as much of an anomaly as the band that created it. Yes, it is a rock album — but there is no guitarist, no bassist, and you can sing along even though there are no words.“The things we wanted to do on the last record we actually achieved on this new one,†says drummer Joe Russo. “We’re more confident in our instrumental rock songwriting than ever before.â€Play Pause Stop was co-produced by drum notable Matt Chamberlain (David Bowie, Shakira) and Grammy-winning engineer Tom Biller (Kanye West, Fiona Apple). The disc will drop July 11 on the band’s own Butter Problems label, distributed by Sony/BMG.The Duo will follow premium festival slots (including Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits) and summer amphitheater appearances with a lengthy cross-country trek that will close out 2006.“Emotionally, it feels really good right now,†says Russo. “If the Duo were to ever end, I’d be crushed to not have this sound happen. Other bands are great, but I can’t imagine not going out and doing this. I can’t do it with anybody else.â€â€œAnd it all happened by accident,†laughs Benevento. www.myspace.com/beneventorussoduocom Call the Telluride Jazz Festival at 970-728-7009 for Tix info.

Tues 15th: TREVOR GREEN:
Born in 1978 in Huntington Beach, Ca. Trevor Green grew up on the beaches of Southern California where he spent as much time riding waves as he did strumming his guitar. In Trevor Green's second album release "Reflections", he explains that much of the music on the album was written and inspired by his wife Jamie Green and birth of his first child Ryder Lee. There seems to be a theme throughout the album of looking inward and reflecting on the journeys of life. "In the past couple of years I have had some amazing changes in my life, and it's caused me to look more inside myself than ever before. I feel like 'Reflections' captured a lot of the feelings that I was experiencing during that time."At a young age Green began his musical journey listening to his father spin records by the likes of Pink Floyd, Neil Young, and Tom Petty. Not long after, Green received his first acoustic guitar, from his mother, an Alvarez 12 string. As he began to write his own musical journey, Green found himself being influenced by such artists as, Jimi Hendrix, The String Cheese Incident, and Paul Simon to name a few. " Going to shows has always been a huge part of my life. I've been moved by so many amazing artists."Thriving on the live performance, Green is constantly evolving as an artist. His stage setup resembles a musical playground, where he finds himself surrounded by that same 12 string guitar, a 6 string guitar, a lap slide, a mandolin, a banjo, 2 yidaki (didgeridoos), a stomp box, and various percussion instruments, Green creates a sound that encompasses the genres of world, funk, folk, and jam rock. "I've always been attracted to instruments of all kinds. As time goes on I continue to collect different instruments and I try to find ways of incorporating them into my setup." Watching Trevor Green live is a musical breath of fresh air. "Feeling the music throughout my entire body by playing multiple instruments simultaneously has become very meditative for me." As Green's stage setup evolves so does his song writing, leaving fans with a curiosity of what sounds lie on the horizon. Touring throughout the Northwest and performing at popular festivals such as the New Orleans Voodoo Festival, Green is cultivating a grass-roots fan base, as he continues to deliver high energy performances, leaving his listeners craving more. www.myspace.com/trevorgreen $5

Thurs 18th: TELLURIDE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL Presents: OAKHURST
Take a string band and swap out the mandolin player for a groovy drummer and you’re well on your way to understanding the sound of Oakhurst. The band spikes traditional bluegrass with rock & roll and a kamikaze rhythmic sensibility. That danceable concoction along with banjo vs. fiddle shootouts, three part harmonies, and citybilly swagger keeps the band in high demand. Oakhurst’s unpretentious, go-for-it interpretation of a genre that’s often handled too reverently, sparks interest in bluegrass by folks who don’t know Doc Watson from Doc Holliday.Oakhurst’s work ethic and road hardened sound has made them one of the most successful acts from Colorado earning them the chance to perform at legendary venues like the Fillmore and Red Rocks. In 2008 Oakhurst played multiple major festivals, 33 states and 13 countries across Europe and the Caribbean. The band's latest album, Jump in the Get Down, received airplay on over 200 radio stations nationwide. The spins not only earned the quintet spots on the Americana, Bluegrass and Jamband charts, but an even larger national following. That hybridized, hard-to-categorize sound has also gotten Oakhurst nominated by Denver’s Westword Magazine 4 years straight as the best band in different categories each year. Oakhurst captured the “Best Bluegrass Band†honor in 2007, against stiff competition.Oakhurst’s broad appeal and nebulus stlye has earned them spots on stages with very diverse national talent. John Mayer, John Hiatt, The Flaming Lips, The Avett Brothers, Brett Dennon, Emmylou Harris, Barenaked Ladies, Patti Griffin, Yard Dogs Roadshow, Bela Fleck, Gaelic Storm, G. Love, Umphrey’s Mcgee, The Radiators, Junior Brown, Lyle Lovett, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Johnny Lang & Guster, to name a few.Oakhurst has also shared the stage with future and current Colorado legends as well. The list includes Leftover Salmon, Yonder Mountain String Band, Devotchka, Rose Hill Drive, the Motet, Emmit –Nershi Band, Great American Taxi and band mentor Pete Wernick. www.myspace.com/oakhurst

Cornmeal has consistently evolved its sound and stage performance using bluegrass as a springboard for long improvisational work and songs ranging from country, rock and blues to jazz, funk and disco. With the release of their debut album "In The Kitchen" (2001 Livin' Live records), Cornmeal secured its place as one of the top bands in its genre. 2003’s “Tales from Magic Stone Mountain†(Livin’ Live records) garnered much critical attention and became a staple on College and AAA top 10 lists throughout the country.(Select Radio Station Listing and Press )Last May, after almost three years, Cornmeal’s released their third album, “Feet Firstâ€. Sat 20th: TELLURIDE BLUEGRASS FESTIVAL Presents: CROOKED STILL
It takes courage to release the security of the familiar and embrace change. After five years of touring and establishing themselves as "the most important folk group to emerge from Boston since the early 60's"(Boston Globe), Crooked Still announced that cellist Rushad Eggleston would leave the group in November of 2007. The solid foundation they built as a group earned them invitations from huge events like the historic Newport and Telluride Festivals and numerous rave reviews from publications like USA Today and Interview Magazine. Crooked Still was now on the cusp of a new musical chapter. The quintet became five with the addition of fiddler Brittany Haas and cellist Tristan Clarridge . Lead vocalist Aoife O'Donovan told No Depression magazine, "When you're in a quartet, and one of your members who's been a huge creative part of your sound decides to leave, it definitely crosses your mind to just not do it. But we had spent five years building a name for ourselves. And if you look at almost every band that's successful, there's been line-up changes."If the first album from the new line-up is any indication, success for this young band will be explosive. Crooked Still continues to perform one of the most compelling forms of alternative bluegrass and string band music today. The new five-member band converged to mingle their creative processes at Allaire, a studio in upstate New York, with producer Eric Merrill for Still Crooked. The album, to be released on the Signature Sounds on June 24, 2008, balances unknown traditional material with three new tunes from the band, along with "Did You Sleep Well?" by fellow old time musician Nathan Taylor and a Mississippi John Hurt standard. The entire album was recorded "live" in one big room, with everyone playing together. Merrill captured most songs in one or two takes. "I was outside in the hallway, because my voice is so quiet," O'Donovan says. "Recording live, you don't have an option to overdub; that always makes a better album."With Haas and Clarridge, the band has proven themselves to be even more adventurous, breathing their cosmic fire into old songs. "When Rushad left, we wanted to move in new directions," O'Donovan says. "Brittany adds another female presence to the band; I can hear my voice in her fiddling. Tristan has a refined cello tone, with a powerful, restrained energy. They bring a fresh outlook to the arrangements that keeps the music exciting.""We rehearsed for a few days before we recorded," Clarridge says. "We'd listen to a source recording, strip the songs to the bone and build an arrangement incorporating everyone's ideas. It's fun to see how many directions you can take a song." Everyone brought material for consideration. "As we worked on the songs, we realized there was a lot of loss and mortality in the lyrics," banjo player Greg Liszt adds. "You can't make a folk album without delving into what's happening now and we were surprised at how current the songs sounded. On 'Captain, Captain' a woman asks what happened to her lover and the Captain replies 'he dropped down dead in the gulf.' It's a 400-year-old line, but it gives you chills."Still Crooked is an ensemble effort of inspired music making that moves the bands' impossible to pigeonhole style in new directions while honoring their folk roots. "It's hard to pin down our music," bass player Corey DiMario says. "We play improvised old time music, bluegrass, folk and our own songs within the broad context of a string band. Like a lot of today's bands, we have modern and traditional influences that confuse the boundaries. We want to keep blurring those lines to make something all our own."Crooked Still's genre-bending sound is the combination of five distinctive talents who are not content to limit themselves to any one project or style of music. While Crooked Still is the main band for these talented players, all are involved in other projects. Each individual contribution is enriched by the multidimensionality of their creative wellspring. Together, they have uncovered new facets of brilliance on Still Crooked. The genesis of the group continues to evolve. Much like moonshine distilled in the apparatus that inspired their name, Crooked Still is still fermenting. And the music on Still Crooked is undeniably intoxicating. www.myspace.com/crookedstill
Sun 21st: TURKEY CREEK RAMBLERS
The Turkey Creek Ramblers are a group of musicians that ran into each other in this box canyon over the course of two years and started to play together. Telluride, Colorado is their home today, and the guys appreciate what a great place to perform the small mountain town is. They have enjoyed playing almost every major venue in the town, including Tommy's Telluride, the famous Fly Me to the Moon Saloon, the historic Sheridan Opera House, and any number of jam spots around town. The band is proud to be on the leading edge of Bluegrass/Newgrass, and plays everything from Bob Dylan to the Rolling Stones, to several original tunes, and has the versatility to play wedding ceremonies or 4-hour bar sets. They want to thank their friends for being so supportive over the course of the last year. Special thanks to Dave, Karen, and Jesse at the Telluride Music Company. Enjoy the smokin' mountain grass! www.myspace.com/turkeycreekramblers
