I Would have liked to meet "Lady Day". Billie Holiday was such a Lady. When I listen to her voice I feel so much emotions. She sang of love and loneliness with such a power and presence. she had this beautiful and particular voice. A few words are not enough to describe this legendary Artist. I love her. Just listen to this poignant song: "Strange fruit", recorded in 1939, this song is considered to be the first significant song of the civil rights movement and the first direct musical assault upon racial lynchings in the south. This song was not written by Billie Holiday but by Abel Meeropol: "I wrote strange fruit because I hate lynching and I hate injustice and I hate the people who perpetuate it" - Abel Meeropol - Billie Holiday did not write "strange fruit" but she made it her own and what a great interpretation.
