Brian Adler is a NY based drummer who is most at home playing various forms of improvised music. These include but are not limited to: straight-ahead jazz (both the straight and the swung kinds), free jazz (which is not really free), groove-based, ethnic, chamber-jazz, folk, and Indian music.
He is particularly inspired by mysticism and incorporates this into his music. This includes using the poetry of Rumi, Hafiz, Lao Tsu, Issa, and Kabir and Shankarcarya as spring boards for composition, primal grooves, and sound scapes based on ritual.
Brian Adler has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Ran Blake, Frank Carlberg, Dave "Fuze" Fiuczynski, Dave Holland, Erik Lawrence, Joe Lovano, Kate McGarry, Stomu Takeishi, Ray Vega and others. He studied with Billy Hart, Misha Masud, Joe Morris, and Bob Moses.
Adler is the back-bone of Prana Trio and is the founder of Circavision Productions a record label, publishing house and production entity. He also plays in Ray Vega and Sharon Spinetti's Ambos Mundos, a group that plays the music of Debussy, Villa Lobos, Piazzolla, as well Four Across, Mercury in Retrograde, Residual Noise, and 5 Point Perspective.
Brian holds a Bachelor's Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music.
