THE MESSERSCHMITT TWINS

About Me

THE MESSERSCHMITT TWINS were a tribute band of the Wirral synth pioneers ORCHESTRAL MANOEUVRES IN THE DARK (OMD), famous for songs such as "Electricity", "Messages" and "Enola Gay". They were formed originally for the 1997 OMD Convention. They became a feature at OMD fan gatherings over the years.Though THE MESSERSCHMITT TWINS disbanded at the end of 2006, there have been so many questions asked about them since the real OMD reformed and toured in 2007 that this MySpace has been launched as an on-line archive in time for the 10th Anniversary of their first gig in September 1997.Concentrating mostly on covering the band's earlier material, THE MESSERSCHMITT TWINS were known for some radical re-arrangements and a quirky sense of humour whilst paying tribute to the intelligent pop and primary chord structures that was OMD.Among their most popular numbers was a DRUM 'N' BASS reworking of "Red Frame/White Light", a version so good that Paul Humphreys even commented it was better than OMD's original.Another favoutite was the "Sunday Morning" medley incorporating THE VELVET UNDERGROUND song with a coda containing snippets of "Pretending To See The Future", "Hard Day" and ATOMIC KITTEN's "See Ya"!!!The maddest cover had to be THE SMITHS' "Girlfirend In A Coma" set to the arrangement of "Dollar Girl", retitled "Dollar Girlfriend In A Coma"!!!Other performance highlights have included Junior nervously singing "Secret" in front in Paul Humphreys in 2000 and Jimmy's dancing which looked like a cross between Ian Curtis and Ricky Martin!!
