****************************************Singer, songwriter, guitarist Tyrone Cotton grew up in Louisville, Ky. Very early on music grabbed his attention. With the many charms music had to offer, he was lured in. Music was all around him: radio, stereo, someone singing, someone playing. He was spellbound, and at some point in his teens he was convinced that music is what he wanted to do, and he's been playing ever since.Tyrone's Music embraces many genres, blurring stylistic lines. CD Baby wrote "...Tyrone Cotton is a quintessentially American artist, exhileratingly real, steeped in the blues and mixing folk, gospel, jazz, and pop to make American music which has been compared to Tom Waits, Dylan, Ray LaMontagne, Johnny Cash... ."Some recent gigs have seen Tyrone Cotton opening for the legendary Blind Boys of Alabama, Jolie Holland, The Eric McFadden Trio, and Grammy nominated artist, James Hunter. As part of the Wanderer Tour, Tyrone did a string of dates in Northern California. He has played venues large and small from the New York University Beat Festival to the Kyoto International folk Festival in Japan. On the Current recording, produced by Danny Kiely, Cotton is accompanied by a truly stellar group of musicians. Keyboardist, Gabe Dixon, (Paul McCartney, Gabe Dixon Band), guitarist, Steve Ferguson (founding member of the legendary NRBQ), guitarist Tim Krekel (Jimmy Buffet, Billy Swan), drummer Tommy Hambridge (Susan Tedeschi), and harpist known only to us as "Jelly Roll" Johnson. In addition to Ferguson and Krekel, many other Louisville natives present here include drummer Paul Culligan, guitarist Mark "Lupe" Hamilton, keyboardist Pete Petersen, saxophonist Reid Jahn, and Danny Kiely on double bass.A large and masterful cast and a whole lot of real music played here. Never too safe yet Always keeps Cotton and his songs front and center. Perhaps surprisingly some of the treasures here find Cotton accompanied sparsely if at all. A duet with Keyboardist Gabe Dixon on SOMETHING. A drummerless trio, Cotton accompanied only by Bass and saxophone on both SWEET VIRGINA and THIS TIME. And on STORM, an unaccompanied Cotton reveals the unique songwriting and guitar styles which are his own. Intricate and soulful. Ancient yet completely modern.
