I grew up in the very musical metropolitan area of Boston, Mass. to composer parents. Studied violin with Robert Koff and Greg Fulkerson and viola with Heidi Castleman. Went to Oberlin College/Conservatory and later expanded my mind with a lot of travel, which resulted later in a master's in Russian (go figure!). I currently freelance in the Washington, D.C. area. Classical music was my first love but as I've traveled my curiosity about world music has gotten deeper and deeper. The latest obsession is with Arabic music - I attended two performance seminars this year. I'm trying to learn to play taqasim and to improvise -- but it's hard to go against the regimented classical grain after a few decades.
