Lisa Veldon Stokes was born and raised in East New York, Brooklyn. The eldest of ten children, Lisa has been a leader at home and in her community. The person that she has become is a compilation of all her experiences. In her works, she invites you into the urban life through her eyes, hence the name Eyes on You Ent., of which she is Chief Executive Officer. After earning her Masters in Sociology from Long Island University, Lisa took another step towards her dream when she enrolled at the Digital Film Academy to pursue a dream in filmmaking. She received her Certificate in Digital Filmmaking and wrote, produced and directed“Twisted Love†an urban tale ,“Living on the Low†a documentary, that gives an inside look into the dynamics of bisexuality and how it relates to the familial institution, "House Money", about friendship and betrayal and "Salaam", about bringing peace between the Middle East and the United States. In January, 2007 she wrote and produced "Silent Cries of a Child", Chyna Layne stars in the short film, SILENT CRIES OF A CHILD, a story about a young mother named Mercedes struggling to raise two children alone. One day, leaving the supermarket, she meets the man of her dreams. Smitten by his affection and the father-figure he has become to her children, he is her knight in shining armor. However, he soon reveals that he is not the hero she thought he was. Inspired by the loss of Nixmary Brown, SILENT CRIES OF A CHILD was written and co-directed by Lisa V. Stokes and directed by Iris Goodwin. SILENT CRIES OF A CHILD joins the awareness and urgency to battle against child abuse.These projects are a great start to the plethora of tales from the hood that Lisa V. Stokes has to share.
