About Me

Teresa Brewer (originally spelled Theresa Breuer) was born May 7, 1931 in Toledo, Ohio and began singing at the age of 2 on the radio for "Uncle August's Kiddie Show." She never learned to read music, yet she recorded almost 600 songs. Her first husband was Bill Monahan, with whom she had four daughters and then divorced in 1972. She then married jazz producer, Bob Thiele, who was also her creative partner. She's covered a number of country, R&B, and jazz songs, and has performed with numerous greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Dizzy Gillipsie. She died very recently of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare degenerative brain disease, on October 17, 2007, at the age of 76 in New Rochelle, NY. Ms. Brewer is survived by her four daughters from her first marriage, Kathleen Monahan Granzen, Susan Monahan Dorot, Megan Monahan Ahearn and Michelle Monahan McCann, all of Westchester County, N.Y.; a stepson, Robert Thiele Jr. of Los Angeles; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.This page is dedicated to her and everyone who appreciates the impact she's had on the music industry for almost the entire last century and on the world.
