Melany Watson is a young "seasoned artist" with a "raw" soulful sound, with a charming yet inviting "sassy" performing style. Melany is known for appreciating all genres as well as incorporating those genres to create a fresh sound all her own. Melany's vocal delivery produces a striking, thick soulful resonance as well producing tone that soothes ears wanting more! With years of background singing experience with her mother, she has a solid wide range that puts her in the running along with her heroes Aretha, Whitney, Etta, and Mariah. Melany is a taught herself to hear harmony. Melany proves time and time again that she is doesnt want to be a carbon copy of any former artist. Her goal is to inspire and touch lives with her music like her heroes Stevie Wonder, Etta James, Roberta Flack, The Black Crowe’s, and Whitney Houston. Growing up in the “Lone Star Stateâ€, Melany's walls were plastered with posters of George Strait, Mariah Carey, Etta James and Whitney Houston as she dreamed of becoming a singer. Choral directors in her grade schools and churches began to direct her toward soul and jazz once they discovered her thick, Smokey, blues tone to her voice. At first, she tried singing country music. Being from Texas she was force-fed country music. Melany eventually came to her senses when she won the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Competition in 2001 singing Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way.†Since then, the only thing to come out of the native Texans mouth was R&B and soul. She went on to perform at the Miller Outdoor Theatre for “Juneteenth.†Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Melany Watson was asked to perform after the booking agent heard her sing at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLS&R). She was the only white female to help celebrate the holiday on June 19, 2000 and 2001. At 19, Melany dropped out of college and moved to Nashville to find her pursue her dreams in 2004. She realized after being a starving artist for two years that she wanted to go back to school and study music. She is currently a junior at Belmont University and has managed to balance both school and outside gigs/sessions. As she makes her way on to the Nashville Music scene, she is also working towards a Bachelor of Music degree majoring in Commercial Music Voice with an Emphasis Music Business. Not only does she want to make a name for herself as a performer, she plans to pursue Music Publishing. Melany has been writing and co-writing for herself and other artists and still attends Belmont. She recently finished "...Out of the Blue."-EP with producer/Keyboard player/songwriter Eric Kinny and plans to have her music on iTUNES as soon as possible!!!!
