Although he was born in Chicago, Gabriel Scott Meyer, better known as “BOGS oneâ€, is very much a representative of the city of Denver, Colorado. Part of a family of four, his Father, his Mother and younger Brother stayed in colorado as he bounced around during his younger life to places like Illinois and Wisconsin to name a few, but ended up settling and finding a permanent home in Colorado.
Life was not easy for BOGS as a youth. Many mistakes and turns in different directions took him down destructive paths and nearly broke him early in life. Despite spending time incarcerated and strapped with difficult issues, he has learned to maintain the outlook that the future is what you make of it and a belief that mistakes are something to be capitalized on and should be used as a means for self expression.
Music was always a release and an influential part of BOGS’ life. While living in the North/East he had much exposure to artists and groups such as Notorious BIG and The Wu-Tang Clan. Upon moving West, his knowledge of artists and groups like Dr Dre, Brotha Lynch Hung, 2Pac and The Dawg Pound grew, and most importantly, he became aware of the local Hip-Hop scene in Denver. In the year 2001, he began making his own beats. His style elevated quickly, and it wasn’t long before he was all over the local scene. As time went on, he produced tracks for Colorado artists such The Vigilante, Feedback, Hypnautic, Apostasy, and eventually, Mista Poedic who he first worked with in 2003. The two responded well to each other’s musical talents and views and recognized immediately the potential and chemistry they had together. In 2007, they began serious work together and made the decision to put together a project.
Around this same time, BOGS was introduced to Kemist, who had been producing locally for years and would later become his production partner and best friend, as well as G., long time friend of Mista Poedic & Kemist, who would later become his close friend and manager. Not long after all parties were introduced, talks of starting their own label began, and planning of their first release wasn’t far behind.
In August of 2008, the foundation of building their dreams began with the formation of 8th ElemEnt., one of Colorado’s fastest rising independent record labels. Their first release: Mista Poedic’s “The Saidative†album is scheduled for late 2009. This project was produced entirely by Kemist & BOGS one, also known as the “Lab Teksâ€. This is the label’s production staff and includes RH1N, producer & lyricist of another well known local group, Gamer Life as well as Mr. Willis, producer and the crew’s official DJ. This squad will have the production lead on all Gamer Life & 8th ElemEnt. mixtapes and releases to come.
One of the most skilled and true to the street producers in Colorado, this 28 yr. old 8th ElemEnt. Executive, Co-Founder and In-House Producer is more focused on his music than ever before and is on the way to making his dreams a reality. BOGS maintains the mindset not to fail and the desire to take it to the top with his label and his production.
