Áine Furey

I finished a Degree in Celtic Civilisation and Classics, with a first class honours degree from University College Cork in 1993 and joined my brother Martins band Bohinta. We toured with many musicians over the years including Roy Marchbank, Greig Stewart, Jill Hunter, Carlene Anglim, Robin Hurt, Brian Finnegan , Andy B Jackson, Kathryn Tickell, Peter Houlihan, Caoimhin Vallely, Dave McLoed , Gary Lowe and Eeza, and played many festivals such as Glastonbury, The Phoenix Festival to The Shetland Folk Festival in the UK as well as touring in Norway, Germany, Belgium and Australia to name but a few. Several CDs later I decided to return to Ireland, having been based in the UK for 7 years, to go back to University in Dublin in 2003 this time to do a Higher Diploma in Irish Folklore, in which I gained a Distinction and thoroughly enjoy to this day. Martin has since joined The High Kings, and I have just released my newest CD 'Cross My Palm' which I recorded over the last few years in between Tour Guide/ Education employment in such places as The National Museum of Ireland Archaeology, Glendalough, Dublin Castle and Kilmainham Gaol. I am hoping to be touring the East Coast of The States by early 2010 so heres hoping.... As well as music and heritage I am absolutely passionate about animals, especially dogs and have done some volunteer work up at the local DSPCA and with my brother Rob in South Africa on a lion monitoring program with i-to-i in January 2007....great fun, I highly recommend this to everyone with a love of animals..... :)
