..I'm 23 years old, laid back down to earth, respectful, kind, friendly, quiet at first, cool type of person. I am the youngest person to ever go through a leg lengthening procedure at the age of 16 months old. I didn't get a lot of time to play with my friends because i was in the hospital every year. It was hard to get friends because of what i have gone through. I thank the friends i had since birth and half my life for excepting me for the person that i am. He was born with one leg much longer than the other, but at 19 years old, after undergoing more than 25-surgeries, he has overcome the odds. Not many people could undergo what 19-year-old Calvin Gholston has withstood. Born with a disability he didn't sit on the sidelines. Instead, he fought to walk. We first introduced you to Calvin Gholston when he was only seven years old. He was born with one leg several inches shorter than the other. He whizzed around in a wheelchair and limped with an apparatus, but wanted more. Fast forward 12-years, Calvin has undergone more than 25-limb lengthening operations. The operations have forced his own bone to grow. They have been painful, and expensive, but they've worked. With the cast off Calvin takes his mother's hand and steps on his own two feet for the first time. And not long after, into his fathers arms. This is a new day for him, and one we'll always remember, its been a long haul for him Calvin could have taken an easier route. He could have had his leg amputated. Instead, he chose limb lengthening and now he plans to put his baby cast and operations behind him. His parents who despite health insurance were forced into bankruptcy over medical bills, say Calvin's can do attitude carried the family through. The determined child who grew into a determined young man now plans to walk on his own two feet into the future. He says anyone can follow in his footsteps.
