About Me

I am a singer/songwriter living in beautiful Orlando. I have been chasing the dream since I was a little boy back on Long Island. I have been singing for as long as I can remember. My mother likes to tell people that when I was about 4 years old, I used to run around my house doing my best 'Jeremiah was a bullfrog!'. I guess I got bit by the bug early. I was the lead vocalist and guitar player for Sunset, which was a great band in the late '80's and early 90's. We had a lot of fun and I wouldn't trade those times for anything. Craig Fox, now of Project Mercury, was the other guitar player and vocalist and Eric LeVine was our awesome drummer and chef! (Check him out at Chef Eric at The Vines in Atlanta). Sunset played all originals and and we were known for being energetic and edgy, and we just blew people away with our harmonies! (Craig is a genius when it comes to harmonies. Visit him at Project Mercury's website..). I would like to think that we may have broken more than a few hearts as well. After Sunset sadly disbanded, I went on to do some solo work and live acoustic shows, as well as being the lead vocalist for the short lived Socrates Cocktail in Orlando. I have also done some consulting for up and coming musicians, giving them some guidance and advice so that they can be successful in bringing their special gifts to the music world. Through all the years, successes and failures, smiles and tears, I have never let go of the dream that someday I will succeed and be able to share the gifts that GOD has bestowed on me with anyone who wishes to receive it. All I ask is that you give it a listen. Ultimately, I believe this...If I can make one person think, one person feel, touch one persons' heart and for a breif moment give the gift of music, then all of my journey will have been worth it. Influences: I write more classic/acoustic, but there are decidedly progressive and jazz elements to it. Let's see... The Police, Steely Dan, The Who, The Smiths, U2, The Fixx, almost anything 1980's new wave, TPOH, Billy Bragg, Joe Jackson, Pat Metheny, The Cure, The Cars, The Doobie Brothers. My real early influences were the Beach Boys, Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton, The Who, Led Zeppelin ..I could go on and on, but there is just so much amazing talent out there that it would be difficult to not be influenced by it. Even if something is 'not my style', I still learn from it.
Sounds Like: It's kind of hard to describe...It is very original. A music critic once said that," Bruce Martin has a sound that is edgy and intense, with the emphasis on solid lyrics, and music and melodies that are tasty enough to make it work". It has appealed to a wide range of fans over the years. If I was put on the spot, I would say that my music sounds like a mix of classic rock, with some progressive mixed in. I just try to write what I feel without any B.S., because I want it to mean something real to everyone. I believe that once you strip all the studio tricks and other instruments away, a song has to be able to stand on its' own. I can play every song that I write with just one guitar and the lead vocal line. That is where I am coming from. This approach has always made sense and has worked for me. Of course, once we add all the other stuff back in, I still want to provide an awesome and relevant tune which hopefully will stick with the listener.
