About Me

WROTE AND DIRECTED "FAST LANE"
WRITER - DIRECTOR
PROFESSIONAL BIO
Born and raised in Chicago, director David Betances began his film career in Los Angeles as an actor in the Warner Bros. comedy AIRBORNE. His experience on-set with director Rob Bowman (X-FILES, REIGN OF FIRE) unveiled the process of filmmaking and inspired his passion to direct.
David applied to film school and was accepted into NEW YORK UNIVERSITY's prestigious TISCH SCHOOL OF THE ARTS where he wrote and directed five short films including 9:45, NO ESCAPE, and MY FATHER'S SON and produced the award-winning BEFORE TAKE OFF, a thirty-minute drama shot entirely on location in Brazil. Although he graduated from N.Y.U. with honors, David considers his most important achievement to be the creative collaborations he was able to forge with fellow film students.
David moved back to Los Angeles where, as a writer, he developed feature film scripts for author Piri Thomas (DOWN THESE MEAN STREETS) and actor Jacob Vargas (JARHEAD, BOBBY). In 2004, he co-wrote and sold his first screenplay entitled AFTER THE FIRE, which is loosely based on the true-life story of Latin music producer and artist, A.B. Quintanilla (SELENA, KUMBIA KINGS).
In production, David's work has ranged from being a production assistant on GREY'S ANATOMY (ABC) to a producer, associate producer, and production coordinator for such films as DISTORTION (Rialto Films), RHYTHM & HONEY (Ironhog /Lionsgate), and the behind-the-scenes DVD content for UNDERWORLD:EVOLUTION (Sony / Lakeshore).
In post-production, David worked as an office manager and editor for Machine Room Digital before accepting a position as Library Service Rep. for Kodak's Laser Pacific Media Corp. where he facilitated and serviced digital media workflows for the film lab, telecine bays, edit suites, projection and digital intermediate (DI) departments, during completion of such films as BABEL, WORLD TRADE CENTER, and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.
In 2007, David completed NEW YORK STORIES, a DVD compilation of his first three films as a writer-director. Although 9:45, NO ESCAPE, and MY FATHER'S SON are unique in tone and genre, they collectively showcase technical acumen and concise emotional storytelling. David complements these skills in the development of commercials, music videos and feature films by utilizing digital photo-books and 3D storyboarding (pre-viz) to efficiently communicate his artistic vision and storytelling style.
"I am currently pursuing collaborations with passionate production teams looking to achieve a unified vision with creative integrity, fiscal responsibility and universal appeal."
