About Me
Terry Lee Ballard was born in St. Joseph, Missouri, and grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he discovered and developed his country music style. His early influences ranged from the traditionalists Roy Rogers, Hank Williams Sr., Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, George Jones and Fats Domino to the more progressive artists and bands Santana, The Allman Brothers, Kansas, Deep Purple, Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughn and J. Geils, just to name a few. Terry’s love for all styles of music has made a huge impact on his writing and performing and has contributed to his raw and edgy traditional country style. Terry was also influenced greatly by his father, Billy Lee Ballard, a great trombonist who played for years with Les Brown & His Band of Renown. Terry’s dad also did numerous studio recordings on records for Frank Sinatra, James Brown, Dean Martin and numerous other artists in the Big Band era.
Terry has performed with some of the greatest country artists and musicians in the business including John Fogerty, Jeff Cook (Alabama), Mark Chesnutt, Duane Eddy, Johnny Rodrigues, Mickey Newbury, Tanya Tucker, Gib Guilbeau (The Flying Burrito Brothers), Ronnie Guilbeau (Palomino Road) and too many more to list here. Randy Travis performs one of Terry’s songs, Diggin’ Up Jones, a parody of Randy’s original version of Diggin’ Up Bones. Randy has performed this parody numerous times on TNN and other TV and radio broadcasts.
Terry has just recently finished his new CD single, The Finger, which includes the bonus hit The ‘Do It’ Song featuring The ‘Do It’ Girls. The CD is available through Mountain Rose Records.
