About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
Guitarist-composer Stefano Romerio was born May 17, 1970, in Lugano, Switzerland. He began playing pop music at an early age, working with local bands – notably La Cosca, with whom he toured Southern Europe and performed in such legendary Swiss clubs as Atlantis in Basel and the Bern’s Bierhuebeli. Soon, however, pop fell by the wayside as Romerio discovered his real passion: jazz and its great masters. Relocating to Bern, he attended the renowned Swiss Jazz School. While there, the guitarist joined respected trumpet player Franco Ambrosetti’s group for the CH New Jazz Festival. Once he’d obtained his degree, Romerio – encouraged by former SJS director Joe Haider to develop his own musical identity – flew to New York. After six extraordinary months in Manhattan, during which time he studied with such guitar luminaries as John Abercrombie, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Peter Bernstein, Romerio was offered an attractive opportunity in Europe. Upon relocating to Berlin, he collaborated with drummer Salvatore Tranchini and guitarist Giorgio Crobu. But despite his creatively satisfying experiences in Germany, the Big Apple’s jazz scene and inimitable lifestyle beckoned to him; in 2000 Romerio once again found himself in New York. He worked with Antonia Bennett, George Schuller, Leo Tardin and Ada Rovatti, among other artists, and appeared in top-tier jazz venues like the Metropolitan Café, the C-Note and the Kavehaz. This stint in the United States lasted for four years, culminating in the recording of Romerio’s debut album, “From Where We Stand”, on which the guitarist was joined by Russ Johnson (trumpet), Dave Mason (drums) and Thomas Morgan (upright bass). The Italian jazz label Splasch released ”From Where We Stand” in May 2006.
