HipHopHuis opend its doors in 2002. The initiative for this project came from Rotterdam's b-boy scene. Bennie Semil, Lloyd Marengo and Aruna Vermeulen developed a concept to answer the need for space and organization within the Rotterdam HipHop scene, in cooperation with the SKVR (Art Foundation in Rotterdam).
The four HipHop elements form the basis for their program: Breakdance, DJ-ing, MC-ing and Graffiti.
Apart from lessons and practise opportunities, HipHopHuis produces events, jams and battles. All this to inspire and improve the movement.
For example, talkshow My Bio provides the local scene a monthly dosis of HipHop theory: HipHop artists are questioned about their heritage, choices, plans and tips.
With Lloyd's Company, students and talents from the HipHopHuis create dance and theatre shows. Check our website for more information: www.hiphophuis.nl
