Melodic is a word that is used to describe Justin's music. It means consisting of melody, or relating to melody. It is a word that defines his sound. This singer/songwriter/producer has been working on his art for 10(+) years, and while he hasn't perfected his craft, he has however found an unsurpassed range to his vocal technique, that he continues to experiment with today. Growing up, Justin was instilled, by his mother, the teachings of Christianity. "I am greatly humbled that God has entrusted me with this gift." He has always felt that he can make a difference in the world with his music. In his up bringing he has been exposed to a wide range of musical genres. Ranging from Old Gospel all the way to Rock and everything in between. Though it may seem like Justin's been singing all his life, (some claim to have sung when they began to talk) he really hasn't. Infact, he didn't even know he could sing until the age of 12. Justin actually wanted to become a doctor. He always had the will, and the spirit to help others. Though Justin continues to help others through his music, those once doctor dreams are long gone. Not even knowing that he possessed the gift of song, Justin began to write poems, that then transcribed into lyrics that were then sung with actual melody. Justin then began to hum these little melodies around his home. His mother would hear him but didn't want to acknowledge something that could potentially be nothing. So Justin continued to write song after song after song. By the age of 15, Justin had written over a hundred pieces. He's kept all of his work too, dating back to his very first piece. His inspiration, which still remains true to this day, is life. Bill Whithers once said that it is better to look through a window rather than a mirror because when you look into a mirror all you see is you and whats behind you. Through a window, you can see everything else. Justin always names three people when asked when and how he started singing. Number one is God. Number two is his best friend Shaniece Alee. Number three is Usher's 2001 LP titled "8701". One christmas Justin's mother had baught his brother Jonathan Usher's 2001 LP "8701". His brother would play the CD every single day. He would even sing all of the songs. Justin would just sit back and watch his older brother enjoy music and wondered why he liked it so much. Justin then took time to sit down and really listen to it himself. It was with this album that Justin would find his own voice. Most people would give there singing credit to some of the greats, such as Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston, Al Green and so many others, but Usher was the artist that started this love for music that Justin has today. Since then, Justin has had a few producers/managers. None that he wishes to name, but they were all great influences in his life. They gave him insight into this world of music business, they helped him grow as a performer, and most of all they showed him how cruel this industry can be. Justin has had his own music rights ripped from right under his nose, and from people he thought he could trust. This has not made him bitter, nor destroyed his dream. Those experiences have made him strive for more, to never settle, to keep pushing on, to keep believing, and to truely see how bad he wants this. Besides performing at talent shows (while he was in school), and school functions, Justin has had the oppotunity to perform at U of D Ceremony's, Birthday Parties, Wedding's, Churches, Local clubs and has been featured in numerous talent compeitions. Justin, who has now given himself the name Melodic, will continue to make music until he is called home. Nothing can stop this young man from success. He is destined for greatness, and this is only the begining.BiOgrAPhY:A LITTLE ABOUT ME:I am a young soul singer with a Tenor I / II range. I can adapt to many different genre's. I am a graduate of Wilmington, Delaware's Cab Calloway School of The Arts. There I sung classical Arias in German, Spanish, French and Italian. My Stage name is Jay, but my artist name is Melodic. I grew up in the small city of Wilmington, Delaware. It was rough growing up constatly getting into fights with people who thought they were better than me. but the things I had to go through when i was younger, only made me a stronger, more prepared young adult for the world today. I've been doing this thing called MUSIC for more than 8 years now. I've learned alot working with different people in my young carreer. I've sung locally at different events, venues, dinner parties, birthday parties, churches, and even weddings. I would sum my attitude up and say that I'm HUMBLE above most things. Alot of people say that they are, but this is a fact for me. I can't explain how I am, but the reason is due to my spiritual beliefs. Because I believe in a higher power, it alows me to acknowledge that my voice has been lent to me. And for that i must be caucious of what I do and say with it. Music to me, is Love. It's a universal thing that anyone can relate to, which is alot like love. It's something everyone likes. The I love most about music is how it makes you feel. Forget moodswings when your going through puberty. If your feeling depressed and you dont know why, just pop in "Cruisin" by Smokie Robinson. I bet you'll feel real calm after that song. I have a small family, and we can never get along. I guess thats the reason why we don't hold family reunions. It doesn't bother me none. As long as I have my Mother, my younger siblings, and My MUSIC, I'm alright. I actually began writting my own music and lyrics, before I even knew I could sing. I wasn't one of those children that sung since I could speak. but I once I started you couldn't shut me up. I'm the only one in my family that's musically inclined, and actually wants to persue my passion. I will be going to college after I graduate. I hope to attend Berklee College of Music. Look out Berklee, because I'm coming!!!!A LITTLE ABOUT MY MUSIC:I think that my music is one of the most dopest, illest, realist, piece of true artistry in the world. (Then again .. every artist most likely thinks this very thought) In fact, I'm sure there are others that can write the way i do, and sound the way i do, and do exactly what I do, but I havent met them yet, and they're not famous yet either. (LOL) It's first come, first served. I have found that with my many years of writting music, that I truely got better over time. I remember my early years in writting. I thought that i was the stuff. Now when I look back, I'm thinking, what in the world was I thinking? I realized that you don't have to use profanity, or vulgarity in your lyrics to get your point across. i also learned how to channell my emotions when writting a piece of music. i found that using better words to describe what you're trying to say makes your song really stand out. I have a wide vocal range. Although, my falsetto needs alot of work. but what i can't sing in falsetto, I just power out in my chest voice. My music can be compared to Musique Soul Child, Chris Brown, Ciara, Brandy, Aaliyah (R.I.P.), Donnell Jones, Case, Usher, Mario Winans, and Mario, just to name a few. I know these artists don't write alot of their songs, but how they sung it, and what they were singing about correlates to my music today. As a performer, I am growing, and will continue to grow every time I step out on stage. As a vocalist, I am constantly chalenging myself to grow. It's a never ending story with music and I. Some people say my music doesn't justify my singing properly. others say i sound better on a record. And some people say i sound the same. I'll be the judge to that.A LITTLE ABOUT MY INFLUENCES:My number one influence still till this day would have to be Mr. Stevie Wonder. His vocal range is amazing. He is blind, and yet he can command a stage outstandingly. And who could ever forget his smile that lights up the world. He's an amazing musician/pianist. There are other artists such as Usher, who have helped me find my natural singing voice, but thats as far as that relationship goes. However, I can say that Brandy, today, has the most influence on me vocally. i love her inside and out. She's a wonderful artist, mother, and human being. I'll leave my influence to the great musicians, not the good ones.A LITTLE ABOUT MY FUTURE:I pray that my future doesn't come too quickly. I want it to feel natural. i want it to be what I've dreampt about for years. I don't want over night success. I don't even have to have the fame or the fortune. (Of course we all know thats what comes along with becoming a great artist) I just want the world to hear my voice, listen to my words, and enjoy my music. Because I enjoy making it. If and when talks of a recording contract comes into play, I pray that i am mentally prepared. And when my work is done here on earth, I pray that I did change some lives, and helped some people. I pray that my journey is a long, and prosperous one, filled with lots of love and support.- AMENFINAL THOUGHTS:I listen to all kind of music. The only thing about music, in general, that I can't stand today is the vulgarity that artists feel they must put in their songs. Back in the Motown days, they did have a little "sexual swing" in what they were trying to say, but it was nothing like it is today. I believe that music is powerful in everyway. The gift of song, is something that artists today take for granted. They've been given an opportunity to express there selves, and instead of taking advantage of it in a positive way, all they talk about is sex. What ever happened to Lauryn Hill, The Fugees, The Funk Brothers, Donnell Jones, Brandy, Boys II Men, and Whitney Houston??? If only drugs weren't a factor for so many artists downfall, they would still be making that make you feel good music today. I think that there are many great artists out today, i just think that the record companies know that Sex sells. It's a proven fact. It's really unfortunate for the true artists that make REAL music but can't put an album out because the record companies are telling them it won't sell. Music needs a change. I'm here to do just that. I gaurentee you that I can sing about what every other artists sings about, put it all into metaphor and have everyone think that it's an inspirational piece. But in truth it's probably talking about making love to your soulmate. It's called Artistic Genius. It's a beautiful thing. And that's something that makes ME stand out in todays industry. ... remember music is what i do, not who i am ...
