About Me

Well my name is Taylor MacRae but my friends like to call me "Tay MacRae." So that is what I like to go by. I've been playing music for nearly 12 years. I grew up playing the electric guitar being taught by my older brother and my dad. Ever since than I was always fascinated by music and listening to bands. That was right around the Nirvana era so those are the songs I grew up learning how to play. Such as: Smells like teen spirit, come as you are and man who sold the world. I used to be able to play those songs with my eyes closed when I was 12 or 13 years old. Probably would have to think twice about the chords today. I knew that the way to start having fun with music was to make a band. So taught a kid down the street a couple songs and my best friend learned to play the drums. We would jam everyday in my garage. Mainly Nirvana tunes. We were young but pretty good for our age. We played a 2 song show at my elementary school and the first time I heard all the cheers, it hit me hard. I still remember it to this day. I knew that was what I wanted, to do. As I went through High school I joined a seperate band who I played with for about 6 years on and off. Thats when I started singing. Our band name was "One of a Kind." Our drummer was phenominal and myself and the other guitar player alternated playing the bass and singing. PLaying with those guys I widened my horizons with music. Really learned how to play leads better on my electric guitar and how to play and sing at the same time. Learned how to play the drums and the bass guitar. We were good. We won battle of the bands and came 2nd in the district. Started playing some paying gigs at private parties. We didn't really play much after high school. We only really played when we had an offer to play some where. I think our last show was at Rover's pub about 2 or 3 years ago. I just don't think any of our scheduels worked with each other. As far as I know those guys are still playing and keepin the dream alive. I am sure one day we will jam again for fun. After that i put the guitar down for awhile. I only really played acoustic guitar at drunken camp fires with friends. Jamming the odd time with my old man and my brother. But not improving or having much emotion in my music at all. I left for Thailand about a year ago. Bought an acoustic guitar as soon as I got there. I took that thing everywhere I went. I was travelling alone so I got lots of time to get back in it. Over there I truly think I developed my new style of playing. I wrote some new songs which are very different from any songs that I have written before. I started taking old cover tunes and absolutely raping them from their originals and putting new twists on them. Started to get some great feed back from other travellers. After doing that for about three months I came home. Showed my new songs to some friends and they really were in to them. Not thinking of persuing them at all. It was all just for fun. Friend's of mine organized an acoustic show for me to play at "Top Shelf Bar and Grill." I was nervous because I have never played in front of so many people by myself before. I always had a band behind me. The response was unbelievable. I remembered that feeling that I had when I first played when I was in elementary school. I was living on a high and I still am. After that I played at "Sonar" twice in gas town. I played a show at "The Standard" in New West. I've played at the "Wired Monk" twice in Langley. And my last show was at "Houston's" in Maple Ridge. All these shows were amazing times and great parties. I appreciate everyone that comes to see them and I hope they enjoyed the show. Upcoming shows will be at Houston's again March 23rd and at Top shelf in pitt meadows April 28th. There will be some new material coming up for both those shows. I can't wait.My favourite bands and my musical influences are; Pearl Jam is my favourite band ever, Dave Matthews band I think is great and I really look up to them. Slackstring is a sweet ska band that I think everybody should check out. Rise Against is unreal and tons of others. I love the music, I love poetic lyrics and I love catchy songs.I really hope there is a future in music for me. It was always a hobby and always a dream. But it now seems like I am now getting closer to my dream and I am now more determined than ever. Hopefully sometime in the future I can make a disc and hopefully get discovered and go on tour. I've always wanted to go on tour. Hopefully now with Go Time Productions with me I can achieve my dream and theirs. I'll always be rockin.Keep it real, Tay MacRae
