About Me
Wheat Ridge Cyclery’s story truly embodies the American dream. Eugene Kiefel, a German immigrant, originally a bearing salesman here in America, decided in the early 70’s to get his piece of the pie and start his own business. He explored every option from opening a Dairy Queen franchise to a go-kart dealership. Lucky for us, in 1973 Eugene responded to an ad in The Denver Post, and in the August of 1973, for $4800, he purchased the 750 square foot sapling that has become the 30,000 square foot Wheat Ridge Cyclery we know today.
It would seem that, where cycling is concerned, Eugene has a gift in producing success stories. Not only is Eugene responsible for Wheat Ridge Cyclery, he is also responsible for bringing Ron Kiefel, one of the greatest American cyclists of all time, into the world. Ron, now co-owner of the shop, has competed in the Tour de France 7 times, was the first American cyclist to win a stage in the Giro d’Italia (Tour of Italy), and a bronze medalist in the 1984 Olympics!
