I am twenty-nine years of age and am a Heart Transplant recipient. Four years ago my heart went into an abnormal rhythm and I was told it was because I had a leaky valve. Nothing too major, so I scheduled the surgery and took two weeks off from work (Baker and McKenzie. the largest law frim in the world where I worked as an Accountant). I went into the hospital on February 11, 2002 for what was supposed to be four days and awoke five months later. My heart muscle failed during the procedure and I was put in a comma. My heart never beat again on its own. After several months my lunges collapsed and I was put on the transplant list. After a total of seven months a match was found. I left the hospital on November 22, 2002. I had spent eleven months in the hospital. I left unable to have children and taking thirty pills a day that I would have to take forever. I had a boyfriend at the time of my hospitalization that waited for me and married me just five months after my being home. We are now the parents of adopted seven year old twins that we have had since the age of three. God took away everything I wanted....my fast paced high paying job, my size two designer clothes, my sports car, my fast life and gave me everything I need....love, honor, respect, and humbleness. For that I am blessed and consider myself to be a miracle.
