About Me

I met Matt way back in high school. Freshman year, it must've been. I think he was wearing a crass t-shirt or something and i must've thought that was rad. You know how fickle kids can be. It must've been something obtuse like that. Anyway, at the time I had just taken up bass (I later switched to guitar and recently to the turntables), so we decided to jam like spastic hellions. We would get just abhorently fucking stoned and then record strange, epic little ditties on my four track recorder. Most often, what resulted was just pure, unadulterated, piss-filled noise. We just let it rip and to hell with the remainder. We had a lot of great fun you know, and if it weren't for a damned fetishist record collecting obsession in my early twenties i would'nt have taped over a great portion of what we put to tape. (especially the belligerent, stomping electric garage punk stuff). Well, that's life, i guess. Years later, i had the bizarre idea of creating an epic and meandering sound collage out of the remnants and burnt tapes i had kept in a tiny rucksack in my closet for over 10 years. What resulted was 'Echo Bridge' which was a place near my house under which the journalist dave carini and i would go and drink 40's purchased by twenty-something, possibly bearded fellows often in the process of eating a snicker's bar. That's failsafe, for you youngsters out there. There was never a point where that equation faltered. Drink up. (Officially kidding) Anyway, Matt was a drama freak and i wrote a lot (still do from time to time), so we became fast friends and took to each other right away like aborted step brothers. We formed a one off garage group called the dead spy report with this chick called natalia from some slavic country and performed exactly one noise-filled show at our high school. 15 years later, we are now water..Life is strange . .Some years later, my roommate rich and I made another very odd tape in the spirit of the boredoms. We each read a poem/story of our own creation on opposing tracks (like an old school, bus stop freestyle battle) and drunkenly smashed the ever-loving-shit out of toy keyboards and things on a third. On a fourth track, we chanted the same stanza over and over ad infinitum. The product, to be utterly frank was truly terrible (abysmally and almost embarassingly so). But i screwed and chopped it and fucked with it a bit recently and created another brutal, derivative sound collage. I entitled it 'screaming through the vents' after a slogan i had scrawled on the maxell tape at the time which read 'the poets and pilgrims circle on the floor, screaming through the vents." I was obsessed with fingerpicked folk rock (the bloody flux) for awhile around 2004 or so, but but i developed some kind of early onset arthritus in my right hand after a terrible breaking-and-entering related accident, so i gave that up entirely at about the same time i began listening to scratch dj's almost exclusively. It took me awhile, but I finally got some turntables this past christmas and i've recently begun experimenting with loops and scratches....It's great fun.
