The Public Library play a homemade hybrid of garage folk and creaking pop, using an array of devices which include echo boxes, delay pedals, soft distortion dynamics and acoustic guitars with buzzing strings.
The Public Library create music crevices. Guitars and pianos whisper around in the drift, occasionally hitting tambourines and The Public Library live in Edmonton, Alberta. The Public Library listen to bands such as Little Wings, Guided By Voices, The Velvet Underground, The Wedding Present, and R.E.M.
The Dark Birds was the first album from The Public Library. It was released in October 2008.
It Never Snows Around Here is the second album from The Public Library. It was released in February 2009.
Each album contains ten songs which were recorded at various points in time, both in Edmonton and Vancouver. All songs are original compositions, written by band member Michael Betmanis. Both albums are commercially available online through CD Baby, and digitally through iTunes and Amazon. Short films exist for many Public Library songs exist and be found on the band’s YouTube channel.
