Paulo de Tarso

I was born in São Paulo, Brazil. My interest in music was awoken at an early age. Then, as a teenager, I identified myself with works of the great brazilian composers such as Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim, João Bosco and Djavan. My introduction to clarinet further broadened my horizons as jazz and fusion helped form my musical education. Among the artists who contributed to my musical awareness were: Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pat Matheny and Bobby McFerrin. Not surprisingly, several strains of brazilian music, pop music and the groove of north american african music, can all be found in my music. Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Al Jarreau have contributed to my way of singing. It´s this combination of musical styles and genres that helps me to create my own unique bits and art that I share with the world. My recent work brings strong elements of bossa nova, samba and jazz, with streaks of soul. My work combined with the brilliant talent of my backing band promises to re-ignite the fire of brazilian music. I´m currently seeking sponsorship to help me launch my first work, “Boca de Leão”. The project has been approved by the brazilian government, through the culture departments, with TOTAL incentive for the sponsoring company. My CD will be a sample of all the musical trends which have influenced my way of living and feeling music, translated into the language of MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) and Pop. ____________________________________________________________ _(Portuguese) - Nasci na cidade de São Paulo, despertei para música desde cedo. Ainda na adolescência, familiarizei-me com as obras dos grandes compositores brasileiros como Chico Buarque, Tom Jobim, João Bosco, Djavan. Mas foi o contato com o clarinete que abriu meus horizontes, trazendo o jazz e o fusion para participar de minha formação. Benny Goodman, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Pat Matheny, Bobby McFerrin, foram os grandes nomes que contribuíram para ampliar a minha consciência musical. Na música pop, personalidades como a de Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Al Jarreau, trouxeram o groovie da música negra norte-americana, tempero principal na minha forma de interpretar. Meu recente trabalho, amparado pelas Leis de Incentivo à Cultura (Lei Rouanet e PAC), traz elementos fortes de bossa, samba e jazz, com pinceladas de soul e blackmusic.
