Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

About Me

Me in a nutshell....I am quiet when you first meet me...that's because I'm checking out what makes you tick and what offends or amuses you. (After all, I did major in pyschology in college!) If I decide our personalities are compatible, I will talk your ear off (although I'm a good listener too), but if I don't feel that way, I will choose my words carefully and probably keep my personal life to myself. I guess I'm a bit liberal although I hate politics. Mike is my other half...he keeps me grounded, and I love him with all my heart. So far, we have not been successful in spawning our own kids, but in May 2008, we will be able to begin paperwork to provide a wonderful home for one of the many infant Chinese girls that are abandoned every year. If anyone reading this has a Chinese adoption story to share or advice on international adoption, I would love to hear from you.

My Interests

I like comedy especially stand-up if the person is good. My favorites are George Carlin, Ellen Degeneres, and Lewis Black. I also love animals. I have one gray/tan tabby cat named Sherlock and a solid gray cat named Miss Yoda. My husband also has a few fish. In my spare time, you will often find me playing my computer addiction-SIMS2. When I have the time and opportunity, I like to swim, garden, hike, go bowling (although I'm not that good!), see movies, get coffee, or travel. Lately my time has been preoccupied with getting info about adoption....specifically from China. We hope to have a little girl to call our own in a few years!

I'd like to meet:

People who would get along with me will probably have a dry sense of humor, have compassion for people with special needs, like animals and (most important) have COMMON SENSE! Those lacking the last item mentioned need not apply.

Music:

I like a lot of old stuff...oldies, a little disco, very fond of the eighties and a few modern songs. I appreciate classical music when I'm in the mood. I do not like country songs in any shape or fashion, and I'm not very big on rap or r&b.

Movies:

I've been too busy or poor to go to many movies lately but I do catch a few, especially if it's on the TV. I like comedy if it's not too slapstick or stupid and will watch the occasional romantic flick. I do like the weird ones including horrors or downright bizarre movies. Some favorites include The Shining, The Others, Sliding Doors, Corpse Bride, Harry Potter movies, Lord of the Ring movies, old Cary Grant movies, and While You Were Sleeping.

Television:

I've found I have a passion for forensic files or cold case files...anything to do with forensics. It's a bit morbid I know, but very interesting. I don't watch Comedy Central as much since they took off old SNL reruns...MAD tv just doesn't compare. I also like educational stuff too such as Mythbusters on Discovery or medical shows like Babies: Special Delivery. I do like Star Trek, the Next Generation, but I don't like any of the other Star Trek shows. Occasionally I'll watch a reality show (Mike loves the MTV reality shows) but most I don't care for. I don't care for sports or movie videos much, but I do watch boxing with Mike sometimes.

Books:

I am reading now more than ever before. I like fantasy books and the occasional serious reading like various psychological disorders, how to breastfeed your kid...fun stuff like that. I like the Harry Potter books and hope that it's not too long before book 7 is available. Sherlock Holmes mysteries are stories I find myself reading again and again. I also enjoyed the Lord of the Ring series, Douglas Adam's "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" and some of the books by Gregory Maguire that tells the side of the so-called evil characters in fairy tales ("Wicked:The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" and "Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister"). Here lately, I am reading all about Chinese culture/history and books concerning international adoption.

Heroes:

My ultimate hero is Kay Redfield Jamison who wrote "The Unquiet Mind". I had the fortunate opportunity to meet her and share my enthusiam in her story. She has inspired me to have courage and strength and enjoy life.
