Beauty in Contrast

Darkness falls, out the candle burns,
Morning comes and the light returns,
Rain pours, forming puddles coming down,
The sun emerges as its rays clear the ground.
War breaks out, chaos is born,
Fighting continues, ties are torn,
Conflict resolves, a new era begins,
A stark contrast as peace is seen again.
Conclusion meets beginning,
Life ends as a loved one dies,
Hope dissolves sorrow and mourning,
As a new life to be loved opens its eyes.
Yet there is nothing as certain as death,
Nothing quite as permanent,
Everyone draws nearer, closer with each breath,
To the end of their world and a lifetime spent.
But life is beautiful, and life is for living,
Unpredictable and sporadic as it may be,
We do our best with what we are given,
As life calls on contrast to show us its beauty.
And so darkness falls,
As society transitions to night,
But without such gloomy times,
We would never appreciate the light.
Without rainy days,
Could we appreciate the sun?
And without knowing evil ages,
Would we still do the good we have done?
And without those rainy days,
Life may never grow,
Pain is our greatest teacher,
Only with time will we know.
For beauty is measured in most unique fashion,
Not in what it holds, but rather what it lacks,
The beauty in contrast, blazing with passion,
Vivaciously shines before fading to black.
