About Me

Her mother said that she sang before she talked...and she's been singing since. After years of gigs in Georgia, Illinois and New England, Jan settled in to a career in Music Education while continuing to sing on the side. Now, after 24 years in the Choral Classroom she's still working jobs around the Columbus, Ga. area. She co-founded the Columbus Jazz Society in 1987 and has watched it "blossom" into a thriving non-profit for the Arts. During her career as a performer she shared the stage with such muscians as Mose Allison, Larry Coryell, Phil Woods, Bobby McFerrin, David Ragsdale, Barry Miles, Dallas Smith and Susan Mazur, Richie Cole, Simon Carter, Rufus Reid, Billy Hart, George Letellier, Michael Hoskin, Gayle Storm and many others. Jan has earned accolades from Columbus State University by being placed into the School of Education "Hall of Fame" in 2006. She was named to the National Who's Who for Educators on three different occasions. Her heart is in the music and in sharing it with the people and the children of her community. After achieving National Board Certification as a music educator she mentored other music educators in Georgia and continues to contribute to the Arts and to the Community as a consultant for several boards and organizations.
