About Me

For the past 24 years, drummer Jeremy Roberson has perfected his precise, unpredictable, high-energy style of play. Using a combination of the Moller and Finger techniques he has developed his own original style, which is as exciting to listen to as it is to watch. His exquisite ability to adapt his playing style to any genre of music while maintaining precision, timing, and his uniquely smooth style has earned him numerous accolades, and has led him to be known by musicians and fans alike as none other than “Mr. Finesse.”At the age of 3, Roberson, born in Columbia, SC, began honing his skills on the drum set, emulating the style of his older brother Tony, nine years his senior. Before long, Roberson began marching with the W.J. Keenan High School Band- at the age of 11. It was marching under the direction of Willie E. Lyles where Roberson gained fundamental knowledge that provided him with a solid basis of skills that would be the backbone for the development of his own personal and unique sound on the drum set. He continued marching for Lyles throughout his high school career, eventually becoming section leader and in the process gaining regional recognition and earning numerous awards. After high school, Roberson attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC where he further perfected his craft and marched as drum major for the University’s band.Upon moving back to Columbia, SC, after years of diligent practice and time spent developing his personal style, Roberson began to merge into the local and regional music scene at a rapid pace. He has been an integral part of many acts, such as the Skip Pearson Jazz Quartet and Trio, the Robert Gardner Jazz Trio, The Charlotte based Agenda, The Roberson/Sansbury/Spangler Fusion Trio, The Shandon Hoover Jazz Trio, and the Collin Richards Trio. But Roberson should not be praised so much for his past as he should for his current endeavors. He is currently touring regionally with the funk/hip-hop rock powerhouse Villanova, a band whose unique sound highlights Roberson’s versatility, and where he not only plays drums but also sings backup. He has also been currently sharing the stage with famed jazz trombonist/composer Wycliffe Gordon. Roberson recently held his own drum clinic at Columbia, SC’s largest music venue Headliners, a successful event which many local and regional fans and musicians attended. Roberson also gives back to his community as much as he can, working as a drum instructor at his high school alma mater Keenan high.Jeremy “Finesse” Roberson can be contacted for booking at [email protected], and a list of his upcoming dates can be viewed at myspace.com/jfinney1
