Sleeping Dogs was formed from the Avant Garde ashes of New York Punk Band, Arsenal. In 1982 the initial three members, Bad Boy, Dirty Dog and Charley Arsenal escaped from New York, NY and made their way to San Francisco, CA.
In December of 1982, Sleeping Dogs recorded a four song EP that was later released on Crass Records. Though Charley Arsenal wasn't featured on the EP, Bad Boy and Dirty Dog played, accompanied by Penny Rimbaud, Pete Sleep Tight Right and Helan Harmon. Sleep Tight is also credited for making an excellent breakfast of fried mushrooms and Middle Eastern olive bread while they were in the studio.
By 1984 the band's original line-up was changing as new members joined and others left to explore other artistic endeavors. But Bad Boy always remained at the helm and she kept the band playing in one form or another, sometimes as Sleeping Dogs and sometimes as Brainrust.
In 1985 Bad Boy continued to write, sing and experiment with bits of electronic hardware, keyboards and effects boxes. Jeff Crash Worship Mattson was already playing guitar for the band and Pablo sKaZoOoNe Pickles soon joined to play bass. After a short bit of coaxing, Dirty Dog was coerced out of retirement to rejoin the band.
The band enjoyed a limited success, schizophrenically playing under dual alias from San Francisco to Los Angeles to San Diego. Even taking the opportunity to play with Anarcho Punk Band, Alternative, on Hiroshima Nagasaki Day in Dunfirmland, Scotland.
By the end of 1986, Jeff Mattson had left the band, moving to San Diego to go to school, become a Marine Biologist and play guitar for Crash Worship.
Though Jeff was sorely missed, Bad Boy, Dirty Dog and Pablo continued to play and were soon in the studio working on the Brainrust album, Leaving The Mind Behind. After a brief delay, due to Pablo's broken index finger, the recordings were finalized and in 1988 the album was released by Vinyl Communications, with a poster and a limited number of discs being pressed in blue vinyl.
Sometime around 1990, the last show was officially played and the band called it quits after Pablo moved to Los Angeles.
