Born and raised in Jakarta, Areza Riandra started playing music since he was 6 years old. His first instrument is Electone. At the age of 22, he change his intrument to drumset, and started to study music seriously. some of his first teacher in drumset is Samboedi, Gilang Ramadhan, Edy Syahroni, etc. At 2003, Areza took a two years music certification program at Institut Musik Daya, he began to study music more seriously, not only drumset, also piano and music theory. His drum instructor is Aksan Sjuman, Titi Sjuman and Elfa Zulhamsyah. He also learned from another great musician there, such as, Tjut Njak Deviana Daudsjah, Patrick O'Leary, Guenther Weiss, and Max Zentawer. After graduated in 2005, he started to play at some local jazz club such as, Paprika Wine Lounge, Flo Lounge, Ciputra Hotel, etc. He also perform in several jazz event such as International Bali Jazz Festival 2005 and Buitenzorg Jazz Festival with his band, Ensemble d'Etudiant, playing some standard jazz and original song. In 2008, he played with Asti and Friends at International Java Jazz Festival.
