About Me

I'm a world traveller and RPCV (Armenia, 2002-2004) originally from the Pacific NW who has previously lived in D.C. and New Orleans, making it through Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath with an MSW and MPH. I thought that after four years of school in Stockton that I would NEVER come back to California but, hey, I needed a job.For the past year or so I have been working in Napa as a psychiatric social worker with the so-called "criminally insane". I wear a personal alarm. So many stories...But now, I have moved down to the Peninsula to start a new job with the Palo Alto Veterans Administration Hospital and hopefully a career in PTSD treatment. Ahhhh, the adventure. My real dream is to embark on a career in international humanitarian relief work, possibly beginning with a stint with Doctors Without Borders. I'm also fascinated by how mental health is viewed across cultures and so am thinking about a doctorate in Medical Anthropology. F***, I sound so serious. But I'm a nerd AND have a heart for the world so what can I say?Someone described me as being "hippy-like but not to an extreme." I guess that's because I am an intellectual (some might say a nerd), extremely liberal and open-minded, and spiritually...well, a free spirit I guess. What do I like to do? Riding my Piaggio BV 200, discovering great new musical talent, philosophizing, reading, travelling, exercising, and kissing my pug--also named Guinness--on his cute, smashed-up nose. I just bought a tome entitled, "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die". How many books per year is that? I love quests like that.I also have a blog at http://globalnomadtales.blogspot.com which I am in the process of resurrecting after a one year hiatus.

My Interests

Travelling, Unitarian Universalism, writing, pugs, pumpin' iron, sushi, National Book Award winners, foreign languages, Rock Star energy drinks, foreign languages, Vespas, and kickball!
Your Pimp Name Is...
Long Dong Kisses What's Your Pimp Name?
You Are a Dreaming Soul
Your vivid emotions and imagination takes you away from this world
So much so that you tend to live in your head most of the time
You have great dreams and ambitions that could be the envy of all...
But for you, following through with your dreams is a bit difficult

You are charming, endearing, and people tend to love you.
Forgiving and tolerant, you see the world through rose colored glasses.
Underneath it all, you have a ton of passion that you hide from others.
Always hopeful, you tend to expect positive outcomes in your life.

Souls you are most compatible with: Newborn Soul, Prophet Soul, and Traveler Soul What Kind of Soul Are You?

I'd like to meet:

Extraordinary people, people who inspire. I have a strange thing for Jewish women. People who are worldly, kind, compassionate, soulful, love to question why we are here, people with energy and enthusiasm for everything they do. People who don't gossip and who always have a kind word for someone. I want to meet those who still maintain their ideals and belief in humanity no matter how many cynics try and convince them otherwise. Post-humously, I would want to meet Ghandhi, Jesus Christ, and Victor Frankl. I also want to meet George W. Bush just so I can tell him how much he sucks. Also anyone who would want to watch the Lord of the Rings trilogy Extended Edition in one day. See, I told you I was a nerd.

You're fired!

I think that I could write a really good novel about life in an in-patient psychiatric facility. But how to write it? What would be the plot? The conflict? From whose point of view (POV)? I am not sur...

Going into labor

I know that we men are never, ever going to really have the opportunity to know what it is like to give birth (except for Arnold Schwartzenegger who did it in that one movie, what's it called?). But, ...

What happened? This question popped into my head as I was considering how long ago, in my childhood, I had been a prolific, almost frenetic writer. During elementary school, I would write stories of a...

A Eulogy to Sirelis (2002-2006)

I never wrote about this but back in September, my cat, Hoki (Armenian for "soul") disappeared for about a month. I didn't feel that she was dead for some reason, perhaps because she is a nimble kitti...
